Graphenano UCAM and demonstrate the effectiveness of graphene applied to concrete (22/02/2016)

A material which improves the strength of the construction.

This is the conclusion we can draw following the demonstrations this morning at the UCAM graphene application to concrete.

Catholic University with the company Graphenano Smart Materials, presented the utility, which many consider to be material of the future, through various trials that has appreciated its effectiveness.

The first of these has been to exert strong pressure for breaking concrete in which there has been the greatest resistance of the material to which had been added graphene.

The second test was through the absorption of water, where again it was found that the concrete containing graphene was impervious.

Finally, a flexural test was carried out with the same result, concrete containing the additive, turned out to be the toughest.

The director of the Degree in Architecture from the UCAM, Juan Roldan, said that the conclusion of these investigations, we can ensure that "the most immediate application is in pillars, concrete screens, roads and dams, all of which require durability, this additive will reduce the use of cement, which is good for the environment and modify the method of constructing materials with concrete. "

All this will help to reduce emissions, it is a struggle for all research groups, "added the professor.

Roland added that the application of this material "is a way to fight the collapse of a building, not so much to bear without it being deformed, but to allow it to deform but return to its former place."

Besides architect she added that "our commitment is to continue using graphene adequate to increase the tensile strength of concrete to reduce the use of armor and control the process of contamination of these mixtures."

The event was present, President and CEO of Graphenano, Martin Martinez, who stressed that "this additive that has been developed by the UCAM, reaching the construction industry and will revolutionize as it has done with electronics and the batteries".

By Graphenano, also she attended by Vice President Jose Antonio Martinez.

For his part, the Vice President for Research at the Catholic University, Estrella Nunez, said that "the projects we carry out business with the collaboration of students, and this patent was developed through the work order degree our polytechnic ".

It is recalled that these investigations arising from the agreement signed between the UCAM and the company Graphenano Smart Materials.

The ceremony was also attended by the director of ICT and Multimedia, Samuel Mendoza, and teachers in grades Architecture, Building Engineering and Civil Engineering.
