The city of Murcia is working to improve energy efficiency in municipal buildings (21/02/2016)

The Department of Administration Modernization, Urban Quality and Participation, through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change (GER), has promoted an action plan for energy audits in municipal buildings in order to assess the possible improvement actions that result in energy, economy and CO2 emissions savings in the municipality.

ALEM, in collaboration with the General Services, has launched the first phase of this action plan comprising eight comprehensive conducting energy audits at City Hall Multipurpose Abenarabi, the Local Development Agency, the Auditorium of Cabezo de Torres the Municipal Center Los Dolores, the Municipal Center Javalí New Library Pelagio Ferrer in El Palmar, the Library Sangonera La Verde and the Senior Center El Ranero

These first buildings to be audited have been chosen for their symbolic nature, uses and consumption high, located in the town and villages, and the diversification of types of use (administrative use, libraries, auditoriums and senior centers etc.).

Through energy audit is studied exhaustively the degree of energy efficiency of an installation by analyzing the energy consuming equipment, the thermal envelope and consumption habits of users of buildings.

The results of these audits form the basis for the implementation of actions adapted to the characteristics of each building, to optimize consumption according to their potential savings, ease of implementation and cost of execution.

Councilman Jose Guillen explained that "we are aware of the strategic importance of reducing energy consumption of the municipality as well as CO2 emissions associated with this consumption and to fulfill the commitments made by the city of Murcia in the framework of initiatives European and the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors' Adapt. We work to reduce municipal energy bill at the same time optimize applications and improve the energy efficiency of our buildings.

Guillen recalled that Murcia, "and was the first city in Spain to express interest in the Covenant of Mayors in 2008, thereby committing themselves to reducing their emissions of greenhouse gases by 20% by 2020. One of the objectives of the Department of Administration Modernization, Urban Quality and Participation is to create a citizen-oriented, where you can visualize the energy consumption of municipal buildings platform.

In this way all the buildings that are audited once made the appropriate improvements, will be integrated into the platform.
