The Waste Treatment Center of Murcia is one of the focal points of Europe (17/02/2016)

Councilman Works, Roque Ortiz, accompanied by Council of Municipal Maria Teresa Espinosa Socialist Group;

Citizens, Paqui Pérez;

of Murcia's change, Margarita Guerrero and Murcia now, Maria Angeles Moreno, Service technicians street cleaning and representatives of the concessionaire, Ferrovial Servicios, this morning visited the treatment plant Cañada Hermosa.

This plant managed, last year 177,550 tonnes of green bin waste generated in the municipality of Murcia, which represents a 3.34% increase over the previous year.

The center was opened in November 1994 and since then, Ferrovial Services, dealership service business continues to expand and improve its facilities with different R & D, to achieve an improvement in the management and treatment of waste.

20 years after its opening, one last enlargement, in June 2014, launched six new plants, which make up more than 15 types of treatment for waste, making the MSW Treatment Center of Murcia in one of the centers reference country.

The main objective of MSW Treatment Center is to ensure the proper treatment, recycling, recovery and disposal of all waste generated daily in the municipality of Murcia.

Given the innovative nature of the Centre for Treatment and importance today in the daily life of citizens, it is important to make it known to direct users and all interested persons through awareness campaigns and guided factory tours.

The main objective of these actions is:

Raising public awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.

Report municipal channels of action.

Suggest behavioral patterns for citizens to get involved and collaborate in cleaning the city and separate collection of waste.

Transmit to society the importance of turning Murcia into a more sustainable city.

The operational activities carried out in this center are perfectly coordinated and adapted to the required standards for such facilities, whose security measures guaranteeing protection of people working on it.

Sludge drying plant

In the sludge drying plant waste from the industrial water treatment are discussed and its main objective is to achieve a reduction in the mass of sludge between 60 and 80%, thus obtaining a biologically stable, with minimal water content, odorless and capable of improving the subsequent composting process.

This plant represents a clear commitment to renewable energies as solar-powered, and four drying tunnels can treat 20,000 tons of sludge per year, but is expected to double its capacity in 2018.

Biogas plant

The biogas plant is needed to control landfill gas emissions, promoting their elimination and preventing can create pockets of methane into the land element.

The biogas produced is conducted by a network of pipes installed to a primary control station where natural conditions and its energy wealth is measured.

Subsequently, it is combusted to set in motion enormous engine power generators.

Got no soo energy supplies to the Treatment Center in full, but also to the city, through their integration into the municipal grid.

landfill

The landfill is a perfectly bounded and isolated from natural terrain that surrounds it, where all components of everyday waste that can not be exploited in the sorting and recycling plant are deposited installation.

The compactors are responsible for crushing and extend waste to occupy less space and, once compacted, covered with soil to prevent odors fired, forming a network of independent cells.

The whole basis of the system is protected from natural and synthetic materials that prevent such waste liquids resulting from fermentation of waste, to leak and are pumped to disposal facilities.

On the other hand, the gases produced by the buried waste is recovered by a network of pipes that rise up the biogas plant, which will be harnessed to generate electricity.

Treatment Plant Waste electrical and electronic equipment and vehicles out of use

The treatment plant Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and life vehicles (ELVs) combines environmental protection with the recovery of materials of high commercial value, to its implementation, were treated outside Murcia.

Waste managed in collaboration with Paris, it has a resilience de1.500 kilograms of small appliances and 20 refrigerators per hour.

In addition, it also has a specific line for the treatment of life vehicles and decontaminated.

In these facilities we proceed to the cutting of all elements of the devices, enabling reuse and enhancement of metal waste currently generated in the MSW Treatment Center of Murcia.

Composting plant

The composting plant is responsible for the treatment of organic matter that has been separated in the sorting plant, to give a second life as compost.

Adding other waste from vegetables, forest waste and sludge drying plant are introduced into the hoppers to start a process that will transform them into compost, a fertilizer rich in nutrients for use in crop and soil remediation .

The composting plant applies a fermentation system that involves placing the waste into three digesters for accelerated decomposition, under strict controls humidity, temperature, odor and leachate.

These controls ensure on one hand the quality of the final product (compost) and secondly, the absence of contamination throughout the process.

Treatment plant for bulky waste and solid recovered fuel

This plant combines treatment of bulky and industrial waste with the production of refuse-derived fuel (CSR).

Bulky waste is waste generated in private homes, shops, offices and industries that are obtained through the special collection of furniture and appliances.

This waste, along with the rejection of the treatment plant and other lightweight packaging fraction having a high calorific value.

In this plant, a rigorous process of transformation, recovering these materials in the form of CSR, which may be used as an alternative fuel in co-combustion facilities (cement, power plants and industrial furnaces), contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases and independence from fossil fuels.

This plant has a treatment capacity of 20 tons per hour, which will be increased gradually to 40 tonnes.

Treatment plant and the rest fraction containers

The current packaging sorting plant began operation in 2000 and since then have been treated 39,457 tons of packaging only the municipality of Murcia.

This new plant is intended for the treatment of waste from the separate collection of green bins (rest) and yellow (containers).

Sorting facilities consist of a discharge area and storage of waste pits equipped with independent reception, three lines of particle size selection, two lines of densimetric line selection and automatic selection of recoverable products.

With this new plant has increased the capacity of waste treatment, doubling and tripling of other packaging, to meet the current and future needs of the population of the municipality of Murcia.

Biogas plant

The biogas plant allows the generation of biogas for recovery at the treatment center.

It has capacity to treat 10,000 tonnes of organic matter or food products and produce one million cubic meters of biogas per year, to be used to generate electricity or bagasse drying Beer energy.

This plant, a collaboration with Estrella de Levante, is the first of its kind in Spain and has the support of the Ministry of Economy for its highly innovative character.
