The CENTUM magazine of the University of Murcia devotes his new number to the inventor Jerome Ayanz (16/02/2016)

The Centum magazine of the University of Murcia has devoted its latest issue, a monograph, the figure of Jerome Ayanz and Beaumont, inventor, engineer and scientist of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century who lived in Murcia for years.

A personality little known in Spain despite having advance from one to three centuries inventions considered of great importance for humanity, including the steam engine, air conditioning, submarine or diving suit he designed and tested a lot before those of the inventors considered official.

Jerome Ayanz married into the influential Murcia family Dávalos, lived in Murcia acting as city councilman, and promoting the construction of military defenses on the coast as well as the activity of the port of Cartagena, being in charge of the task of Abanilla .

Ayanz Jerome died in Madrid on March 23, 1613, his remains are buried in the Cathedral of Murcia, in the chapel of Dávalos.

Appointed by Felipe II in 1597 general manager of the mines of the kingdom, his position led him to investigate and invent machines and metallurgical processes that revolutionized the exploitation of mines.

In the early seventeenth century, Felipe II granted operating privileges Ayanz first patent registrations in the history of Spain to fifty of his inventions.

The Lope de Vega himself echoed his exploits on the battlefield and force Hercules Spaniard called him in one of his plays.

Nicolás García Tapia, author of two biographies about him, Ayanz was not only a great coach, but his inventions based on scientific knowledge.

There was one of his books, in which many theories and scientific topics of the time rebutted.

In short, "we Jerome Ayanz consider as one of the great Spanish geniuses," says García Tapia.

Publication of the University of Murcia tries to rescue from an unjust oblivion this important personality of science in Spain.
