That is why I want to invite citizens to participate in this process, the results of which will be integrated into the Murcia Urban Agenda 2030, the roadmap for the next ten years and which will be the municipality's strategy ”, explains Mercedes Bernabé.The survey, prepared by a research team from the University of Murcia, is part of the participatory process prior to the drafting of the Murcia Urban Agenda 2030 strategy.

The questionnaire is composed of nine questions divided into two blocks: one focused on evaluating the driving projects of the 2020 Strategy, the strategic lines in which work should continue for the future of Murcia and their perception of the quality of life in the municipality; and a second section for the sociodemographic classification of the participants. In addition, in parallel, starting in September, 1,000 surveys will continue to be carried out in person throughout the municipality, a process that began before the confinement and was interrupted due to the Covid-19 crisis.

.Citizen panelIn addition to the online and face-to-face surveys, a citizen panel is planned in which the presence of people with disabilities or functional diversity will be guaranteed.

"It is a system that will allow a dialogue to exist between the participants with minimal moderation of the session, thus allowing consensus processes to emerge between different speeches in order to have the broadest possible vision of the analyzed reality," says Mercedes Barnabas. In this way, the meetings will be held periodically to check how the opinions and perceptions of the attendees vary and the degree of acceptance of the Urban Agenda by the members of the citizen panel.Murcia, pilot experience of the Spanish Urban Agenda 2030The municipality of Murcia has been selected by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to participate as a pilot experience in the implementation of a document that represents the roadmap for the transformation of urban spaces towards a more sustainable model.“We are immersed in the development of the Murcia 2030 Urban Agenda, which will serve to guide other municipalities in the development of their respective strategies.

This process will also involve an exchange of knowledge and experiences between the different levels of public administration ”, adds the mayor. The diagnosis for the preparation of this document began last February after the meeting with the Social Council of the City.

From there, a participatory process began with interviews with key stakeholders in the municipality. In this way, a technical team from the University of Murcia has been in charge of the meetings throughout these months, which began with the members of the Social Council; later it was the turn of socioeconomic experts from the territory; and, finally, the different political groups that make up the municipal corporation. The process continued with the holding of working groups with the members of the Social Council, whose preliminary results were presented in the Plenary of the Social Council on July 21.

Today the citizen consultation opens and once the entire participatory process is finished, the Murcia Urban Agenda 2030 strategy will be formulated, which will be validated by the Plenary of the Social Council in the last quarter of 2020.
