The PSOE warns that the unavoidable time has come to extend the tram to the Arrixaca and the West Polygon (24/01/2020)

The Socialist Municipal Group will defend a motion in the next plenary session of the City Council of Murcia in which the extension of the tram line is claimed, from the Circular Plaza to the Intermodal Station of El Carmen and from there to the Sanitary City and Polygon West Industrial.

"It is necessary that we adopt this decision and get down to work, because on a day like today, with free public transport due to pollution problems, it is shown that citizens, who have responded massively, are willing to use buses and tram to get to their study centers and their work, "explains the socialist councilor Juan Vicente Larrosa.

"There is no longer an excuse to delay this decision, we have serious pollution problems that require a significant reduction in traffic and we have our neighbors waiting for quality public transport, with enough lines and frequencies that move them to the point of the municipality that need, "he says.

In addition, the mayor says that if there are two points of great attraction of vehicles is the Sanitary City and the West Industrial Estate, so there must be two destinations to which the tram should arrive as soon as possible, passing through the future intermodal transport station .

However, Larrosa understands that the first step must be to reconvene the "forgotten" Transportation Bureau so that any decision has sufficient support and participation.

In addition, it indicates that the new Campus of Health Sciences of the University of Murcia, which is being built next to the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital, will be inaugurated during the second half of 2021 and the displacement of more than 5,000 users is expected, apart from those who already use the facilities of the Sanitary City, which means that in the short term a massive influx of vehicles will be generated.

This will further increase the collapse of existing traffic.

Therefore "we must act now, we cannot wait, we must anticipate and, really, in the PSOE we believe that the tram is not a solution."

The councilor believes that a decision of these characteristics "brave and forceful" has many "good consequences for the entire municipality and will allow the southern area to have modern infrastructure to move forward." On the other hand, Larrosa warns that "the PMUS (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan), which was approved in 2013 and in which around € 360,000 was invested, already provided for the extension of the tramway in 3 more lines, so what it is now that the government team executes and Stop announcing new studies, because that way the PP only delays the resolution of the problems and wastes public money "and adds that" the reports themselves do not solve anything, they propose measures that are those that must be executed without further detours. " Finally, Larrosa also indicates that, "although we are satisfied that the PP has already realized, finally, that our proposal to provide public transport to citizens during the days of pollution

it's good, we have to keep moving forward in taking other measures. "
