Murcia, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy bets on the recovery of gastronomic heritage (09/01/2020)

Tomorrow will open the headquarters, in the heart of Murcia, in Romea Square, which will be operational 365 days a year.

José Ballesta: "We return to the origin, we recover our roots, which are what sustain and nourish us to continue growing and innovating in the future."

Cristina Sánchez: "The 45 municipalities of the Region of Murcia will surprise us throughout this year of capital. The inauguration will host a tasting of three traditional stews: wheat with fennel, gurullos with rabbit and garum of salted meat, three dishes that are part of the heritage of regional gastronomy "and represent the Murcian Huerta, the interior of our Region and the coast".

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the President of the Community, Fernando López Miras, the Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Cristina Sánchez, the Councilor for Economic Promotion and Tourism, Pedro García Rex, and the President of the Spanish Capital of the Gastronomy (CEG), Mariano Palacín, will inaugurate tomorrow the official headquarters of Murcia Gastronomic Capital, on the ground floor of the Romea Theater, where the new office is located, which will host hundreds of activities throughout 2020, such as workshops, 'showcookings' , product samples, forums of ideas, artistic and cultural events related to gastronomy and cooking classes for the little ones.

During the day, in which different mayors of the Region will be present, there will be a tasting of three traditional Murcian stews, “recovering three dishes that are heritage of regional cuisine.

We return to the origin, we start from our roots that are the ones that sustain and nourish us to continue growing and innovating, â€said José Ballesta, who added that“ the year of Murcia as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy will be loaded with novelties and will not only mean value of our roots but also the application of new technologies and culinary research to our traditional dishes â€.

The Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Cristina Sánchez, stressed that “the 45 municipalities of the Region of Murcia will surprise us throughout this year of capital, not only showing that we live in a land that has a sublime raw material, and sublimely it is known to cook, but we are also going to take this opportunity, to recover some of those recipes that have been forgotten in a stove over time and that reside in the memory of our palate â€.

"The road map is clear, the tourist will choose us for everything that is known about us (heritage, landscape wealth, Costa Cálida etc.), but also because they will not be able to resist the 1001 Flavors we have for them to try," he added Cristina Sánchez

Murcia's Huerta, the coast and the interior of the Region

Specifically, the stews that will be tasted tomorrow will be wheat with fennel, gurullos with rabbit and salted garum, “three traditional stews that represent the Murcian Huerta, the interior of our Region and the coast,†says the mayor of Murcia.

The students of the Tourism Qualification Center (CCT) will be in charge of cooking the dishes for the inauguration.

In addition, the event will feature the mascot of Murcia Gastronomic Capital.

Open 365 days a year

The central office of Murcia Capital Gastronomic will open 365 days a year and will host tastings, culinary demonstrations, idea forums, cooking classes for children, activities, product samples, etc.
