Local Police will have drones to monitor hard-to-reach areas (21/10/2019)

Among other functions, they will be used to reconstruct traffic accidents, control mass events and in emergency situations.

These two aircraft are capable of reaching a height of up to 6,000 meters and a speed of 72km / hour, and can be controlled at a distance of up to 8 kilometers.

The drones will go to the Crowded Group and the Ecological Patrol Unit of the Local Police of Murcia.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Citizen Security and Economic Management, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, presented this morning the two new drones that will strengthen the equipment of the Local Police Service of Murcia.

“For the first time, Murcia Local Police agents will be able to use drones to control hard-to-reach areas, control mass events, emergency situations and traffic accident reconstruction, among other tasks, becoming the first aircraft not piloted with that this Body will tell, â€said the mayor of Murcia.

The City Council has allocated an investment of 9,000 euros to the acquisition of both drones, an action that is part of the modernization plan of the Local Police Corps of Murcia.

Specifically, the aircraft will go to the Group of Crowded and the Ecological Patrol Unit.

Up to 6,000 meters high and a speed of 72 km / h

Both drones, which stand out for their low weight, since they do not exceed two kilograms, can reach up to 72 km / h and ascend to a height of 6,000 meters.

They can also be controlled by agents at a distance of up to 8 kilometers.

Monitor areas of difficult access due to its orography, be useful for the search and rescue of people in steep areas, capture images at height and function as thermal cameras are some of the functions they perform, in addition to serving to monitor forest areas and, In this way, prevent fires.

Both aircraft may also be used as loudspeakers, when necessary to use them as megaphones, and as spotlights for night lighting.

Also, the drones will be equipped with emergency parachutes, which will be activated in case they suffer any breakdown, preventing them from precipitating uncontrollably.

Traffic Accident Reconstruction

Another of the functions they will perform will be the capture of photographs for the reconstruction of traffic accidents.

Specifically, the agents of the Crowded Group are responsible for this task.

Likewise, the police groups destined for citizen security will use the aircraft to monitor and control the development of mass events.

Depending on the work to which they are destined, the drones will be equipped differently.

Previous training to fly drones

As a preliminary phase to the professional use of drones, about thirty police officers have taken a training course, in which they have received theoretical and practical classes.

The course has been given in accordance with the requirements established by the State Air Safety Agency (AESA), which regulates the knowledge necessary to fly this type of aircraft.

To obtain the title of Advanced Pilot of Drone + Radiophonist, which allows them to pilot the drones, students have passed the theoretical and practical exams and have obtained a specific medical certificate for the license of light aircraft pilot (LAPL), made by a doctor authorized by the State Air Safety Agency.
