The City Council mobilizes all its municipal services in anticipation of a new DANA (20/10/2019)

Parks and Gardens intensifies the work of cleaning scuppers in the more than one thousand green areas of the municipality, as well as Aguas de Murcia is responsible for the review of the 1,800 drainage devices of the town center and districts.

Specific teams of the different services carry out this weekend cleaning work in flood areas and waterways, such as Torreagüera.

The City Council prepares a special device before the arrival of a new DANA (Isolated Depression in High Levels) for Monday throughout the Region of Murcia.

As in previous episodes, the town hall has mobilized the various municipal services, such as Local Police, Civil Protection, Firefighters, Traffic, Aguas de Murcia, Street Cleaning, Public Lighting and Parks and Gardens, as well as the Mobile Emergency Service and Social Care ( WEEKS), which will work in coordination while the alert is maintained.

According to the AEMET, a new episode of cold drop, known as DANA, will leave heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday in the Region of Murcia.

In this way, the operators of the Parks and Gardens Service are reviewing the large woodland in those sensitive areas to anticipate possible branch falls and cleaning the leaves and scuppers located in its more than one thousand green areas.

Specifically, since last Friday and throughout the weekend, two teams are intensifying the work of cleaning scuppers in those gardens that can give some problem of land and water dragging.

The municipal company Aguas de Murcia is also in charge of the revision of its 1,800 drainage devices located in the urban area of ​​Murcia and districts.

It is about controlling those critical points associated with flood zones in order to guarantee the correct evacuation of rainwater.

The Cleaning Services will be in charge of the elimination of water bags and puddles by means of vacuum machinery, placement of the displaced containers and cleaning of the drag caused by the rain.

Specifically, this weekend, specific teams have been carrying out this weekend cleaning work in flood areas and waterways, such as Torreagüera.

The Local Police operational units, both in the city and districts, will take the necessary measures to regulate and cut traffic, using fences and police tape.

Likewise, the troops will control that there are no incidents that endanger people and vehicles.

Firefighters will be in charge of draining water, putting out fires in power lines and draining flooded lows, as well as rescuing people and drivers trapped in flooded areas, if necessary.

Civil Protection volunteers will be prepared to form a checkpoint, whenever necessary, to collaborate with Local Police and Firefighters in those situations that are necessary.

The Mobile Emergency and Social Assistance Service (SEMAS) will be on alert to meet the basic needs of people who need it.

The City Council of Murcia will inform all citizens of the situation through its Twitter (AytoMurcia) and Facebook (@ City HallMurcia) accounts.

Likewise, the Local Police Twitter will also be active 24 hours a day offering all the updated information on the incidents that occur.

Preventive cleaning of scuppers

The scuppers are the necessary drainage element to keep green spaces in good condition, as well as the urban area and districts.

The technicians perform these works periodically and whenever there is a risk of heavy rains, the work intensifies.

The work consists of eliminating the possible leaves, residues or earth that are inside and that can block them so that they are prepared for any specific rainy episode.

Both Park and Garden technicians and the service of Aguas de Murcia have intensified these tasks over the weekend with the aim of avoiding waterlogging, especially in those places where there is usually a greater accumulation of water.
