The Social Council of Murcia will be constituted in September (24/08/2019)

The Social Council of Murcia, CSM, will be established from September.

This body of citizen participation, of a consultative nature, is made up of representatives of the most representative economic, social, professional and neighboring organizations of the municipality of Murcia.

The Council is attached to the Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government, which Mercedes Bernabé directs, and enjoys the exercise of its functions of full autonomy and independence.

Among its tasks, it is important to issue reports of an optional and advisory nature, as requested by the municipal corporation, of economic development, strategic planning of the city and large urban projects.

It also deals with approving the memory of activities of the Council and raising it, within the first half of each year, to the municipal corporation.

"This body is constituted as a forum for dialogue and channel of participation of social agents more representative with the City Council, as well as consultation and advice when requested," explains the Councilor for Urban Agenda.

Mercedes Barnabas has already announced two issues of his council, recently presented, that will be submitted to the Council: the Circular Economy Strategy, as a model of sustainable, responsible and efficient management, as well as the Murcia Brand, which collects data from the research process on the values ​​and vision of the national and international projection of the municipality, in which more than 1,200 people have participated through direct surveys.

Among the proposals that will be presented to the Social Council, the current status of the Murcia 2020 Strategy is highlighted for its evaluation, as well as the Murcia 2030 project.

The mayor explains that the Council is also responsible for raising studies and research, in collaboration with public or private entities where appropriate, for the knowledge and dissemination of relevant aspects of the sectors under action.

Regarding its activity, the plenary session of the Social Council holds an ordinary session of at least twice a year.

Likewise, it may meet on an extraordinary basis at the proposal of the President or at the request of a third of its members.
