Urban Development performs cleaning and restoration works on Lake Salitre (29/07/2019)

The actions include the waterproofing of the pond and the incorporation of new pumping equipment to improve water recirculation.

The work is being carried out in phases thinking about the animals, moving them from one section to another as it progresses.

"These are formulas that seek a considerable improvement of these spaces by significantly reducing odors, as well as the presence of mosquitoes," said the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén.

The Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, is carrying out during this week a comprehensive reform of the spaces of Murcia and districts.

Specifically, among the different actions, the waterproofing of Lake Salitre stands out to end any loss of water and seek maximum savings.

"The pond container is being adapted to improve the quality of the water and, therefore, the life of the ducks and fish that live in it, thus seeking greater recirculation and avoiding the so-called 'stagnant water'," explains the councilor of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén.

Therefore, a reduction of the draft will be carried out, as well as an improvement of the aesthetic finish and the incorporation of new pumping equipment to improve water recirculation.

The work is being carried out in phases thinking about the animals, moving them from one section to another as it progresses.

Thus, ducks and fish have moved the lakes of Fofó Park and Ronda Sur.

It is - Guillén emphasizes - of formulas that seek a considerable improvement of these spaces by significantly reducing odors, as well as the presence of mosquitoes making these green lungs that Murcia has much more palatable, making them more natural and ecological environments.

The cleaning and restoration work on Lake Salitre is scheduled to be completed by next September.

This action has an investment close to 100,000 euros.

The City of Murcia continues to improve the many green areas of Murcia and districts and will progressively carry out various improvements in the lakes and fountains of Murcia and districts.

The Service of Parks and Gardens, belonging to the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, is responsible for maintenance and cleaning of the natural areas of the municipality.

It has a team of about a dozen people dedicated to the water recirculating in these lakes and maintaining a level of quality.
