The City Council deploys a special cleaning plan to eliminate the nesting of mosquitoes and other insects, as well as odors in the surroundings of the Molinos Del Río (27/07/2019)

The Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, directed by Rebeca Pérez, has deployed a special cleaning device in the Molinos del Río to avoid the possible proliferation of insects and mosquitoes as a result of the vegetation of reeds and bushes that emerge in the canal.

This action, which has also been demanded by the neighbors of the environment, is peculiar for the location and shape of the canal, which can only be accessed by the existing ramp from Hernández del Águila street.

In addition, due to its shape, the part next to the floodgates does not allow work directly as the Stables building limits it, so work in that area must be done manually, approaching by boat.

Secondly, since it is a very representative building (BIC), it is necessary that the work area be adequately protected, avoiding causing damage to the property or pavement.

The cleaning was proposed to be carried out in the vast majority with mechanical means, so that, in addition to eliminating the existing reeds, it would serve for the realization of a superficial run that avoids future germination, as well as that it is the beginning of a deep run of the entire canal that allows the opening of the entrance gates.

Based on the above, the action has been carried out in three phases: conditioning and beaconing of the work area, cutting of vegetation and sludge extraction with transport to landfill and finally cleaning and replacement of furniture.

The works have been carried out between July 15 and 19, having extracted more than 220 tons of cane and sludge.

For this purpose, an excavator with an extendable arm, a 30-meter articulated boom lift, an 8 m3 mixed equipment truck, a manual brush cutter, a water pump, a support boat and a 20 m3 cockpit truck have been used. .

In the works, in addition to the machinists and drivers of the different teams, a gang of 3 pawns has worked.

The amount of the action has been 9,830 euros.
