Volunteers of the UCAM carry out this summer volunteer work in Peru and Argentina, especially in the health and education field (26/07/2019)

Students and professors of the Catholic University of Murcia, belonging to the legal, health, educational, and criminology fields, will depart this Sunday for Peru to carry out an intense charitable and volunteer work based on different initiatives and development cooperation projects in the most disadvantaged areas of the country.

In addition, this year has been incorporated into this project, which UCAM has been developing since 2005, the International Chair in Social Responsibility of the University.

Among the actions that the expedition will carry out until August 24, Antonio Alcaraz, director of the International Institute of Charity and Volunteering Juan Pablo II and promoter of this initiative, highlights the stay in Pachacutec and Iquitos, where they will develop evangelization work, visit The juvenile centers will collaborate in the medical posts and give sociocultural workshops to both young people and adults, so that they can optimize their resources and have healthy hygiene habits, thus increasing their quality of life.

Students will also have the opportunity to carry out extracurricular practices in different companies adapted to their fields of study, being able to put into practice the knowledge acquired.

In this sense, the practices in the field of health stand out, which will allow them to know two hospitals in the area, as well as in the legal field, thanks to the agreements signed with the Peruvian Judicial Power.

In the context of the agreement, UCAM will train the judges and prosecutors of Peru in the field of professional ethics.

Binational Volunteer Meeting

Among the various activities that will be carried out, the celebration, on July 31, of the Binational Volunteer Meeting, where the Peruvian Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Vicente Zeballos, will receive the UCAM volunteers with whom he will have the opportunity to share various points of view on how to perform these types of actions.

Solidarity Dentistry

José Luis Calvo, director of the International Chair in Dental Research at UCAM, together with postgraduate students in this field, will carry out humanitarian aid and solidarity dentistry in the South American country during this month of August.

Volunteers will work primarily serving children in social canteens, facilitating their training and dental health care through implants and surgery.

Likewise, during the course of this stay it is planned to sign a collaboration agreement between the Catholic University of Murcia and the Ministry of Public Health of the province of San Juan (Argentina) so that UCAM Dentistry students can do internships in this zone.
