The UMU signs a service contract with the company Fundown-plant for the management and maintenance of green areas (22/07/2019)

The University of Murcia and the company Fundown-plant SL have signed a contract on Monday to provide services for the maintenance of plants and floors in gardens and forest areas of the UMU.

The initial term of the contract is two years, and may be extended to a maximum of five.

María Belén López, vice-rector for Planning of Infrastructures of the UMU, stressed that one of the main urban attractions of which the institution has its gardens and forest areas.

"The University of Murcia has more than 500,000 square meters of spaces completely integrated with the landscape among which we find many species of great botanical interest and large recreational areas."

The vice-rector pointed out that "the maintenance of all this natural heritage requires a permanent and complex attention that the UMU can not cover with its own means, hence the need to hire this service with a company specializing in green area management."

This year also, "we have included as an improvement of the contract the preparation of an inventory of all the trees and botanical varieties in order to better understand our heritage and do cataloging work," he added.

For his part, Pedro César Martínez, director of Fundown-plant, has highlighted that, in the field of universities, the UMU has been a pioneer in using a clause of the new law of contracts that allows public administrations to book contracts for special centers of employment of social initiative, reserving a game within their budgets.

This clause, has indicated, "allows special employment centers to provide work for people with disabilities, specifically in this case, to 21 people with intellectual disabilities."

The event was closed by the Rector Luján, who stressed that the signing of this type of contract demonstrates the UMU's vocation as an inclusive university with a high social component.

Indeed, "we include this clause in our recruitment files, which allows special employment centers of social initiative to be those that have priority when it comes to accessing public procurement."

"That is the way that the law sets and we have to have enough sensitivity and commitment to put it into practice," he concluded.
