The ingenuity of nine students of the UMU, recognized in the second edition of the program'Explorer: young people with ideas' (22/07/2019)

José Ballesta: "We must recognize talent and give visibility to those people who have decided to use their freedom to create and innovate, to generate employment, knowledge and progress."

Inspiring entrepreneurs and opening doors to them when looking for financing are some of the objectives of 'Explorer: young people with ideas'.

Participants have been trained for five months in negotiation, sales, market analysis and competition.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, has congratulated seven of the nine winners of the 'Explorer Program: Young people with ideas' in the Plenary Hall, an initiative organized by the Banco Santander in which the University of Murcia has participated.

The Mayor of Murcia stressed that "it is good and desirable that talent be rewarded, that society make visible those people who have decided to use their freedom to create and innovate, to generate employment, knowledge and progress;

that is recognized to those who make decisions for themselves and are nonconformist by nature, "and recalled that" the meaning of this act, on the other hand, is to combat the supposed distance between the University and society, eliminate that old topic ''.

The Explorer program is a meeting place for entrepreneurs, who in addition to receiving training for five months, from February to June, have had the opportunity to share their ideas and have helped each other to take forward their initiatives.

Specifically, participants have been trained together with regional and national experts in matters of negotiation, sales, in search of financing and suppliers, market analysis and conflict management, among other topics.

In total, 24 students from the University of Murcia participated in this second edition of the program.

One of the winners is Antonio Serrano Martínez, PhD student and graduate in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the UMU, who has been awarded the prize for the best project of Explorer Space University of Murcia for his startup 'EcoProtein'.

Through this initiative, the young man seeks to produce high quality proteins that come from unicellular organisms, in order to use them to enrich, for example, products such as yoghurts.

The University of Murcia has awarded him a prize of 1,500 euros and will travel, along with other winners from Spain, to Silicon Valley.

The Explorer program has been promoted by Banco Santander, through Santander Universities, and coordinated by the Santander Entrepreneurship International Center (CISE) and the University of Murcia through its Entrepreneurship Office.

The act was attended by the director of the Entrepreneurship Office of the University of Murcia, Antonio Aragón Sánchez, and the coordinator of the Explorer Program University of Murcia, Carmen Garrido.

1,500 euros in additional prizes

Also, Explorer Space University of Murcia has awarded the prize 'Woman Explorer Award', endowed with 750 euros, Sharon Martínez Quiroga, for his project 'Clinical trials search engine', and the award 'Disruptive Technology Explorer Award', equipped with 750 euros, to José Antonio García García and José Antonio Pérez Bastida, for the project 'TrazaChain'.

More than 50 young entrepreneurs will travel to Silicon Valley

At a national level, the 56 best entrepreneurs of this second edition will travel to Silicon Valley, where they will have the opportunity to contact investors to launch their projects and can visit the leading technology companies, such as Google, Facebook and Apple.

Later, they will attend an event in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid), where a jury composed of representatives of Banco Santander, CISE and collaborating entities will select the global winners of Explorer 2019. The three best entrepreneurs will receive a cash prize of 30,000, 20,000 and 10,000 euros, respectively, so they can start their projects.
