Murcia will be until Friday the international capital of folklore (17/07/2019)

Some musical groups have arrived in Murcia from countries such as Russia, Portugal, Chile and Cyprus;

others come from different parts of Spain, such as Córdoba and Zaragoza

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, has received the nine groups participating in the Folklore Festival in the Mediterranean in the Plenary Hall of the City Council.

The mayor stressed that "it is a festival that has a deep symbolism, it represents friendship, camaraderie and the union between people from all over the world through music and folklore," and pointed out that "it is the most ancient of Spain.

This year we celebrate its 52nd edition. ''

Until Friday, Murcia will host numerous concerts of the participating groups, performances with which you can learn the musical culture of countries such as Portugal, Chile, Cyprus and Russia.

In addition, the festival also includes groups that have come from different parts of Spain, such as Córdoba and Zaragoza, and musical groups that represent the folklore of our land, Murcia.

During the ceremony, which has been attended by members of the Municipal Corporation, an exchange of gifts has been made.

Upcoming performances

Tonight, at 8.30 pm, the activity 'Come and dance with us' will take place, with the performance of three groups in different places.

The Marquesa de Benamejí Choir and Dance Group (Córdoba-Spain) will perform in Avenida de la Libertad, the Folkloric Group of Coimbra (Portugal) in Alfonso X, and the Guzel Chulman Folk Group (Perm-Russia) in the Floridablanca Garden.

At 22 hours, the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga will host the inaugural session of the festival in which the following groups will participate: Folkloric Group Virgen de la Vega (Murcia-Spain), Grigoris Ashiotis Dancing Group (Cyprus), Raíces de Aragón Folk Group ( Zaragoza-Spain) and Mahia Rapa Nui (Easter Island-Chile).

At 24 hours, the second session of 'Trasnochando: Reflejos de Luna' will be held, in which popular songs from the XVIII and XIX centuries' will be heard, by Tomás García (guitar, guitar and lute) and Francisco Frutos (voice and guitar).

Tomorrow, at 8:30 p.m., folk groups will dance Folklore Group Raíces de Aragón (Zaragoza-Spain) and Mahia Rapa Nui (Easter Island-Chile), on Liberty Avenue and Alfonso X, respectively.

In the evening, at 10pm, the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga will host the performance of Grigoris Ashiotis Dancing Group (Cyprus), the Choir and Dance Group of Zarandona de la Peña El Esprefollo (Murcia-Spain), from the Folklorico Group of Coimbra (Portugal), of the Group of Choirs and Dances Marquesa de Benamejí (Cordoba-Spain), and Folk Group Guzel Chulman (Perm-Russia).

At 24 hours, The Terrace of Los Molinos del Río will be the setting for the activity 'Entre quintillas y diez la troveras', promoted by the Asociación trovera José Montoya El Repuntín.

The closing of the festival will be held on Friday, at 10 pm, at Cardenal Belluga Square, with performances by the Folk Group Guzel Chulman (Perm-Russia), Marquesa de Benamejí Choirs and Dance Group (Cordoba-Spain), Folklorico Group of Coimbra (Portugal), Folkloric Group Roots of Aragon (Zaragoza-Spain), Mahia Rapa Nui (Easter Island-Chile) and Choirs and Dances of Murcia, and the Francisco Salzillo Regional Association (Murcia-Spain).
