The rector of the UMU receives the students of Secondary of the Region of Murcia rewarded in the XI Spanish Olympiad of Economy (10/07/2019)

The students of secondary of the Region of Murcia participants in the XI Olympiad Spanish of Economy reach for the first time positions stood out, 2 ° at level of equipment and 6 ° at individual level.

The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, has received this morning the students of Secondary that have represented the Region of Murcia in the 11th Spanish Olympiad of Economy and that have managed to be among the first positions.

The event took place in the Convalecencia building, headquarters of the UMU Rector's Office.

Along with the rector of the UMU have also participated Javier Celdrán Lorente, Minister of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment of the Autonomous Community;

Ramón Madrid Nicolás, dean of the Official College of Economists of the Region of Murcia;

Juan Monzó Cabrera, general director of Universities and Investigation of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia;

and Juan Samuel Baixauli Soler, dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Murcia.

The team formed by Guillermo Martínez Hernández (IES Saavedra Fajardo of Murcia), Juan Vera Díaz (IES Marquis of Los Vélez de El Palmar) and Ana López Gamarra (IES Juan Carlos I of Murcia), accompanied by Virginia Verdú Tortosa (Professor of Economics of the IES Saavedra Fajardo) and Nuria Esteban Lloret (Vice Dean of Students and Employability of the Faculty of Economics and Business UMU), finished in second place in the classification of teams in the 11th Spanish Economy Olympiad.

Likewise, Juan Vera Díaz (IES Marqués de los Vélez from El Palmar) achieved the 6th position in the individual classification.

Both achievements, finishing in the top 3 in the team classification and among the top 10 in the individual classification, is the first time for representatives of the Secondary Schools of the Region of Murcia in the 11 editions of the Olympics.

Ramón Madrid, Dean of the Official Association of Economists of the Region of Murcia, thanked the institutions that organize the Economics Olympiad, both in its regional phase and in its national phase and showed the firm commitment to maintain the support provided by the College to these activities, which joins the effort they make of connection with the secondary schools of the Region of Murcia.

For his part, Javier Celdrán, Minister of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment, has placed value on the accomplishment of the Scientific Olympics in the different disciplines "as an instrument to promote scientific vocations among high school students and the result of the students awarded in the Spanish Economy Olympiad is another example that joins the national awards in other disciplines: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Philosophy.

To finalize the act, the rector of the UMU has put in value the obtained achievement;

"fruit of collective work, from families, secondary school teachers, center directors, organizers in the Faculty of Economics and Business, without forgetting the sponsors that make it possible, Seneca Foundation, Association of Economists of the Region and ADESMUR (Association regional of professors of economy in secondary) ", has affirmed.

At the 11th Spanish Economy Olympiad, 135 high school students participated, 64 economics professors from 123 Secondary Education Institutes and 61 professors from 45 public universities.

Held on June 25, 26 and 27 at the Complutense University of Madrid.

The regional phase of the XI Olympiad of Economics, was held at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Murcia on March 29, 2019. This edition established the record of attendees compared to previous years, with almost 300 registered from 38 secondary schools, which made it the Scientific Olympiad with the largest number of participants from the Region of Murcia.

The organization of the regional phase of the Economics Olympiad and participation in the National phase has been financed by the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment of the CARM, through the Seneca Foundation-Science and Technology Agency of the Region of Murcia and by the Association of Economists of the Region of Murcia.
