A trip by bicycle through the history and traditions of Murcia (21/04/2019)

Next Wednesday, the 24th, there will be a trip through the history and traditions of Murcia by bike, through a tour of the different huertanas barracks installed by the most characteristic gardens and parks of the city.

The route, as in previous years, is organized by the City of Murcia, through the Department of Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, directed by Antonio Navarro, and the Federation of Peñas Huertanas.

Participants will complete a 10 km route in which they will spend about 3 hours, cycling with numerous stops explaining the traditions and customs huertanas, among them, the bowls huertanos, manufacture of silk, small orchards, tools huertanas, etc.

Antonio Navarro and Juan Pablo Lozano will give the participants the exit from the Glorieta.

The itinerary through the huertanas barracks installed by the gardens and squares will conclude with a tasting of local products in a barrack in the Malecón Garden.

The stops will be:

- In the Plaza de la Cruz Roja, to see in the Peña de La Seda "The Cure of the Silk Worm" and an explanation of the exhibition of farming implements: cars, threshing wheels, old equipment, etc.

- In the Plaza Circular, where you can contemplate a floral recreation of the Murcian garden: "La Huerta en Primavera" and a Huertano environment;

Later, in the Peña "El Pimentón" hut there will be a demonstration of how the paprika was made in the past.

- In the Salitre Garden to see the Monument to the Huertano.

- Final stop on the Malecón to see the Huertana Spring Monument (recreation of 2 orchards over 10 meters high), the Peña Los Huertanos with the huertana house with its huertano corner.

The route ends with a meal in a barrack that is subsidized by the Federation of Peñas Huertanas and will cost 4 €, where participants will raffle T-shirts, cycling helmets and tickets for Terra Natura, prior registration on the website of the bike

Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

The helmet is mandatory on interurban roads and, in the case of children under 16, always.

Each participant must bring their own bicycle.
