The PSOE accuses the Ballesta government of 'abandoning its fate' to the Railway Museum (18/04/2019)

The socialist councilor Begoña García Retegui criticizes that, after several motions approved in the plenary for the relocation of the museum, the PP government team exhausted this mandate without having facilitated the transfer of pieces and documents of high historical value on the railway in Murcia

The Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Murcia will again ask the government of Ballesta in the municipal plenary next April 30 to provide all information related to the relocation of the Railway Museum, currently in a tiny and poorly equipped facilities next to the tracks.

The socialist mayor, Begoña García Retegui, has defended during this mandate numerous initiatives demanding the relocation of this museum, motions that have been approved and that have not managed to, for now, the PP team move file and move the extensive catalog of pieces and documents that make up this museum, maintained by the Murcian Association of Friends of the Railroad.

"We are talking about a museum that houses from books and documents of incalculable historical value, authentic pieces of the beginnings of our railroad, passing through thousands of articles of considerable value." It does not seem that the Ballesta government is concerned that such a content important for the history of the railroad in Murcia is lost, but of course the Socialist Group and, of course, the Friends of the Railroad, yes, why we return this last full of this mandate to address the PP government to wake up from lethargy and do something about it, "said García Retegui.

The councilor explained that the transfer, which must be made to the current ADIF station in the neighborhood of Carmen, is still an unknown, and requires knowing where the process is, since the hiring of the company in charge of cataloging the pieces of the museum, even the steps to request ADIF to use the current station as the museum's headquarters.

"We want to know if the collaboration agreement with the Foundation of the Spanish Railways (FFE) has been signed with the adhesion to the Plan of Valorization of the Railway Historical Heritage or if any other formula has been sought for the safeguard of the railway heritage that can be run danger of destruction due to the works of burial such as the rotating bridge, those of water tanks, etc. ", he added.

The Socialist Group will also ask if any management has been done so that the cost of adapting the building of the future museum and the transfer of the pieces to be preserved is requested to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the CARM and the Ministry of Culture, with a charge of 1.5% that is derived from the investment in the works of the arrival of the AVE to the city of Murcia and if the management system of the future museum has been studied together with the Association of Friends of the Railway.

"We hope that this last tug of the ears will serve to activate Ballesta even if it is too late, but unfortunately we have not received a response to our requests and questions in all that is going on in the mandate," he concluded.
