The Councilor for Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, Antonio Navarro, will receive the Bikefriendly Award, in the category of second prize 'Sprinter', awarded to Murcia in recognition of the effort made in the last two years to develop and implement measures to promote the use of the bike
It is not the only recognition the city has received in these awards, driven by the Bicycle Cities Network.
Murcia has also highlighted the cycling infrastructure created to ensure cycling quickly, safely, comfortably, consistently and intuitively (cycle paths, parking, accessibility to buildings, maintenance points ...).
In this case, the distinction received is third, after Valencia and Palmar / Metropolitan Area of ​​Barcelona.
Among the actions developed by the City Council that have formed the basis for this award is the construction of 44 km of bike lanes (of which 21.5 km already completed, 15.8 km in execution and 6.7 km in drafting projects. It has created a bicycle parking network with 5,852 seats (5,488 forks, 340 for 17 closed bike racks and 24 seats in a smart car park.) In addition, the bicycle rental system registered better data in 2018, when it added 4,119 users, compared to 3,866 the previous year.
The award will be presented Monday at the Bilbao City Hall, within the events of the First Meeting of the Urban Bike.
