Javier Senent will continue his research at the University of Texas A & M where he will use as a novelty evapotranspiration data to calculate with less uncertainty the regime of ecological flows in the basin of Segura
Javier Senent, director of the Chair of Water Research at the Catholic University of Murcia, is staying at the Texas Agricultural & Mechanical University, where he continues his research on water resources.
This has been possible thanks to the prestigious scholarship program for Spanish doctors Fulbright, granted by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, and this year only have been awarded to 11 people.
It should be noted that this is the only doctor in the Region of Murcia selected.
Regime of ecological flows in the Segura basin
The University of Texas A & M is one of the most important universities in the world in the area of water resources (ranked 9 in the world) and engineering studies (17 in the world), as published by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking).
During his stay, Javier Senent will work with Dr. Raghavan Srinivasan, one of the world's leading hydrological modeling scientists.
There, the researcher of the UCAM will develop a hydrological model of the Segura basin on a daily scale (that is, try to calculate the amount of water circulating at any point in its basin every day).
The main novelty is that, for the calibration of the model, "not only gauging stations will be used, but real evapotranspiration data from remote sensing will be used." The calibrated model will be used to calculate with less uncertainty the regime of ecological flows in the basin, "says Senent.
