Energetic poverty and the commitment of the organizations with the social problems carry out two conferences in the UMU (13/02/2019)

The project 17 ODSesiones of the University of Murcia has this Thursday, February 14, a full program of activities focused on raising awareness about the goal of the UN 'End of poverty'.

Two conferences and recreational activities to promote responsible consumption will be the central events of the day.

'Companies and poverty: energy poverty, social responsibility and responsible public contracting' is the title of the conference that will address one of the most common and least visible causes of poverty in today's society.

It will be at 12.30 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Economics and Business.

Pilar Megía Rico, director of Corporate Social Responsibility of Aguas de Murcia, who will talk about energy poverty and its social rates, is invited to the conference.

Also participating José Manuel García Marrero, president of ADEIRMUR, the Association of Labor Insertion Companies of the Region of Murcia.

Diego Cruzado, president of EAPN RM, the Anti-Poverty Network and Social Exclusion in the Region of Murcia will complete the interventions.

In the afternoon, at 19.30 in the Chamber of Commerce of Murcia, Professor Pedro Juan Martín Castejón, Marketing and Research Department of the University of Murcia, will deliver the conference 'Encyclical Laudato si: implications on the CSR of organizations ', which will reflect on the great importance of the encyclical letter' Laudato Si 'in the development of corporate social responsibility in organizations.

The Conference is organized by Manos Unidas, one of the participating NGOs in ODDS.

Sustainable fashion and clothing recycling

The most playful part of the day will be starring sustainable fashion and clothing recycling.

A group of students from the Faculty of Fine Arts will hold a fashion show at 11:30 in the Faculty of Economics and Business, together with the Abraham Project clothing container, available for the university community to deposit the clothes that they already have does not use.

For those who want to give their clothes a second chance, Proyecto Abraham organizes the 'Upcycling' workshop for the recycling of used clothing.

This training is given by women who participate in the labor integration program 'El Consturerico' developed by the NGO and in which they work to adapt the clothes that citizens donate in the containers that are scattered around the city.

This is known as 'Upcycling' and is a sustainable alternative to the traditional textile company.

The workshop will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Faculty of Economics and Business.

17 ODSesiones is the project of the University of Murcia aimed at disseminating and raising awareness about the 17 sustainable development goals that the United Nations set with the year 2030 as a horizon.

Until April 2021, the University will dedicate one month to each of these objectives with activities of all kinds designed to sensitize the university community and the entire society on these purposes.
