The Plenary Hall hosted this afternoon the institutional act of International Migrants Day, a meeting chaired by the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, which was attended by councilors Conchita Ruiz, Maruja Pelegrín and Margarita Guerrero, and attended by members of different associations of migrants from the municipality (Africa, Morocco, Ukraine, Latin America, etc.) and representatives of NGOs.
José Ballesta stressed that "Murcia is your home.
For many, your city of adoption, but also the place where your children were born, who are as Murcian as we are and we feel that way.
Because from its origins and historical roots Murcia has been a crossroads of civilizations in which people of different races, religions, colors and bloodshed have coexisted.
We are children of miscegenation and our main difference is that we are not different from anyone. "
After the interventions of the councilor of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, and the president of the Federation of African Associations of Murcia, Mady Cise Ba, took place the reading of a poetry accompanied by African percussion that raised the applause of the public.
