Murcia now proposes that the municipality adhere to the network of local entities for transparency and citizen participation (17/12/2018)

- The councilor Alicia Morales points out that "it is surprising that a network that has 225 Spanish city councils, does not belong to the seventh municipality in the country"

- "We must redouble our efforts so that the residents of our municipality are aware of the decision making of local administrations and can participate in these decisions"

NOW MURCIA proposes that the municipality adhere to the Network of Local Entities for Transparency and Citizen Participation, created by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) in 2015. Councilor Alicia Morales affirms that "within the principles of transparency , citizen participation, access to information and good governance that must govern the City of Murcia, to bring the institution closer to the public and promote these principles in public management, we believe timely adherence to this Network, which we will raise in the next plenary Thursday".

The FEMP Governing Board launched in February 2015 the Network of Local Entities for Transparency and Citizen Participation to share approaches, resources and promote innovation and permanent improvement of the relationship between local governments and citizens under the principles of 'open government' and through the exchange of experiences, lifelong learning, networking and developing projects.

Morales notes that "as of November 31, 2018, according to the FEMP website, this network has 225 member councils, 10 councils and councils, and 4 other supra-municipal bodies, as well as observer and collaborating members."

"Our City Council has launched some initiatives in terms of transparency", highlights the mayor, "as the Ordinance, a section on the municipal website or the website 'Participate in transparency', with different scope. in this, for example, they have been reduced to dozens of surveys, which leaves more than enough room to improve public policies to promote transparency, access to public information and 'open government'.

The councilor also recalls how poorly the Murcia City Council remains in the rankings on transparency: "Thus, last year the Transparency International organization placed Murcia in 73rd place among the 110 large Spanish municipalities, while the Dyntra platform in a study of transparency and the 'open government' of Spanish municipalities, puts our municipality in 157th place. "

Therefore, Alicia Morales believes that "it should be positive and bring improvements to our City Council and the public that we join the Network of Local Entities for Transparency and Citizen Participation." We must redouble our efforts so that our neighbors of our municipality are aware of the decision making of local administrations and can participate in these decisions. "
