Margarita Guerrero, councilor of Cambiemos Murcia, proposed in the plenary next Thursday that, following the example of the San Cristobal district of Madrid, the City of Murcia develop a campaign with the shops and bars of the municipality to spread on napkins and paper bags messages, "properly contrasted, that belie the usual beliefs, negative stereotypes, clichés and false rumors about the population of foreign origin".
As explained the mayor, "the rise of exclusionary ideologies makes today more than ever be necessary to deny the rumors about immigration that have permeated the collective imagination, and this is a very concrete measure, low budget and easy execution that it could serve as a first step. "
This initiative joins others presented by the municipal training as the creation of a Local Council of Immigration and Intercuturalidad, the implementation of educational campaigns to eradicate the aggressions and hate crimes, the inclusion of immigrant groups in the festivities, the adhesion to the Network of Intercultural Cities or the launch of the "Murcia free of rumors" campaign.
"That none of these motions has been carried out shows clearly that the management of diversity is not among the priorities of this Government Team, despite the fact that almost 50,000 residents and neighbors of 133 different nationalities reside in our municipality", Guerrero has concluded.
