Countries of the five continents with their culture, traditions, crafts and gastronomy have been present at this Urban DNA event

Ballesta: "It has been a success for the countries that are represented and have shared this day of coexistence approaching points of view and customs"

The Mayor of Murcia José Ballesta, visited this morning the first edition of the international street market of gastronomy and crafts that has been held in the neighborhood of El Carmen, a project framed in the DNA Urban project.

"This initiative has been a success, not only for the thousands of Murcia who have walked through this area of the neighborhood of El Carmen, but for all the countries that are represented and have shared this day of coexistence approaching points of view and customs with all those who have come to live this international experience, "said José Ballesta.

José Ballesta highlighted the involvement of businesses and neighborhood residents "one of the keys to the success of Mixtura has been the connection, the bonds that have been created between all the participants and neighbors who, regardless of the country in which they were born, bring to Murcia its traditions to share the cultural legacy with us, a way to strengthen the relationship with other cultures that coexist in our El Carmen neighborhood ".

This event will be held 9 times a year, during all months except January and the hottest months, in the El Carmen neighborhood in Álvarez Quintero, Santa Úrsula and José María Párraga streets.

And more than 50 groups of different nationalities have been represented at this international meeting.

The gastronomic area has had 9 places that offered international meals from countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Morocco and a representation of Murcia with the School of Hospitality of the City of Murcia and with the restaurant 'La Niña Guindilla' located in the own neighborhood of El Carmen.

In the area of crafts, visitors have been able to purchase products of various nationalities such as Ukraine, Nigeria, Senegal, Morocco among others, and Murcian items from the Folkloric Group Virgen de La Vega.

In addition, dozens of workshops have been developed, exhibitions of traditional costumes, dances and live music typical of each country, all meeting in the same meeting for the first time and bringing all visitors to the culture and traditions of each of them.

This new initiative, which fosters intercultural relations and knowledge of other cultures, will also provide an impetus for the neighborhood, its shops and its restaurants.

This market was born with the aim of boosting this area, thus bringing out one of the hallmarks of this neighborhood: showing the multicultural DNA of El Carmen, the generosity and welcome of the Carmelites.
