The UMU hosts the meeting of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (28/11/2018)

The University of Murcia has hosted this Wednesday the meeting of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN), in its sixty-second scientific session.

It is the first time that the committee moves to the University of Murcia to perform one of its work sessions.

The meeting, which took place in the board room of the Faculty of Law, was chaired by José Luján, rector of the UMU;

and Marta García, executive director of the AECOSAN.

The committee, chaired by Gaspar Ros Berruezo, Professor of Nutrition and Bromatology at the UMU and dean of the Veterinary Faculty, is the body in charge of providing the scientific advice necessary for the Agency to carry out activities aimed at promoting health with base in the diet.

In this sense, the committee assumes the functions of providing scientific opinions on consumption, food security and nutrition.

It also defines the scope of research work and expert groups.

The committee is composed of two sections, one of Food Safety and Nutrition, and another of Consumption.

The first is made up of 20 members of recognized scientific competence in various areas related to food safety.
