Nearly 300 agents of the Local Police make up the Christmas Security Plan 2018 (28/11/2018)

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, presided today the Local Safety Board in which the special device of the Christmas Parties has been addressed.

The Department of Traffic and Public Safety, directed by Lola Sanchez, has prepared a comprehensive and detailed security plan for the holidays in which the device prepared by the Local Police to ensure mobility and road safety of citizens, by One side, and promote the prevention of theft and unauthorized street vending, on the other.

This year it will remain active between December 1 and January 10, thus extending its duration by two days.

The General Traffic Plan, composed of 60 agents from the multipurpose groups and motorists and 70 neighborhood agents, will have as specific missions to avoid double rows of vehicles, ensure that the disabled areas are respected, avoid stops and parking in bus zones. and taxis, the control of parking lots in loading and unloading areas and ensuring that sidewalks and pedestrian zones are respected.

Depending on the intensity of the traffic, this plan will have traffic regulation points established sequentially, in which the driver will see the agents continuously throughout their itinerary, in order to provide the vehicles the maximum ease of movement.

Regarding the Specific Security Plan, its purpose is to increase security and normal citizen coexistence, reinforcing the service with uniformed patrols in the commercial area of ​​the city, center and neighborhood of El Carmen, with special emphasis on the control of street vendors unauthorized and the prevention of infractions of municipal regulations, as well as other incivilities or criminal behaviors.

This plan will be made up of 50 agents of the Special Citizen Security Group, with the complement of 40 Police officers from the Neighborhood and Citizen Security, who will patrol the assigned areas on foot, with the support of the Group's patrol vehicles.

The schedule will coincide with that of commercial activity, covering all days, working and holidays, from December 1 to January 10, adapting to different needs according to the day:

· Morning: from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

· Afternoons: from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

· Nights: from 9:30 to 2:30.

The preferred areas are Santo Domingo Square, Alfonso X El Sabio and nearby, Julián Romea Square, Platería and Trapería streets, Plaza de los Apóstoles, Plaza de Belluga and Glorieta de España, Plaza de Cetina, Plaza de la Cruz, and Calle Correos , Gran Vía Sculptor Salzillo, Plaza de la Fuensanta, Avenue of the Constitution and Liberty, Plaza de las Flores and Santa Catalina, Plano de San Francisco and Jardin del Malecon and Jardín de Floridablanca and Alameda de Colón.

In addition, those places where programmed events take place will be taken into account in a timely manner.

Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve

Both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve will establish preventive security devices in two areas of the city center characterized these two days by the massive concentration of people, in order to maintain proper vigilance and prevent acts of vandalism and other incivil behaviors.

In the Plaza de Santa Catalina and Plaza de las Flores and given the experience of last year, it has been decided to extend the schedule, keeping this device between 11 and 19:30 hours, when in 2016 it was 12 to 16 hours.

20 police officers will participate and one will install a Mobile Citizen Service Office, which will remain stationed in Santa Catalina street, next to Gran Vía Escultor Salzillo.

On the other hand, in Alfonso X el Sabio avenue and Bartolomé Pérez Casas street, this specific device, made up of 22 police officers, will start at around 4:00 pm and end when the area is cleared of public, with a Citizen Service Office which will be located in Plaza Preciosa, next to Gran Vía Alfonso X El Sabio.

On New Year's Eve the service will be reinforced in the Santo Domingo square, both from the point of view of traffic in the vicinity and of citizen security.

It will also be present in the vicinity of the church of El Carmen on the occasion of traditional bells and grapes of luck.

In districts, the commands of the Decentralization Unit will contact the Presidents of the Neighborhood Boards in order to know the needs that, facing these holidays, the neighbors have been able to make them arrive.

This information will be used to program the specific devices that are considered necessary in each case: preventive patrols on foot, security controls, static surveillance or collaboration in events of various kinds.

Other active programs at Christmas

During the next holidays, the Local Police will keep activated different programs that are developed throughout the year.

Thus, the service of the 'Police close + visible' will be carried out on foot by patrols formed by two agents, contacting the users of each of the zones and service will be provided in the areas and days of greatest concentration of citizens in places public.

These patrols will go through streets and squares located in the downtown area, between Plaza Circular, Glorieta de España, Saavedra Fajardo Street and Plaza Mayor, approximately.

The schedules will be adapted to the circumstances of each day, covering the morning, afternoon and evening shifts, between 10:00 and 02:30 hours.

To this end, a total of 24 police officers will be deployed to carry out the following activities during the afternoon and evening, a Mobile Office that will remain in the Santo Domingo plaza from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm, Sunday through Wednesday, and from 5:00 p.m. to 01:00 p.m., Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and another in Plaza Fuensanta between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. every day.

Similarly, the service called 'Leisure Insurance' will be increased because, on the occasion of holidays, the youth stays will be more numerous.

Different squares and gardens located in the urban area and in districts, used for that purpose, will be patrolled from December 8 and until the eve of the feast of the Three Wise Men by four police officers, between 5:30 p.m. and 00 p.m. 30 hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, according to a program established according to the experience acquired from other weekends.

recommendations

From the Local Police they request the citizen collaboration making the following recommendations:

- Advance as much as possible the Christmas purchases, avoiding doing them the last days.

- Respect at all times the indications of Traffic Regulation Agents.

- Use of public transport, pursuing greater traffic flow.

- Use of the helmet on mopeds and motorcycles to minimize the severity of injuries in the event of an accident.

- Use public car parks, avoiding infractions and traffic difficulties.

- Do not consume alcohol if you drive and respect the limitations of speed and other signs, increasing road safety.
