Cs will defend in the Plenary the creation of a plan to reduce flood risks and take advantage of rainwater (27/11/2018)

Mario Gómez presents this initiative for the constitution of a Permanent Water Commission with representation of all the political groups, local technicians, professionals of the area, administrations and organisms involved in the matter

The spokesman of Cs, Mario Gómez, will defend a motion in the Plenary on Thursday urging the local government to, as soon as possible, set up a Permanent Water Commission for the creation of a plan to reduce the risk of flooding and use of the water in which the political groups that form the municipal corporation, local technicians, professionals of the area, administrations and organisms related to the matter are represented.

Whenever it rains in Murcia - with relative intensity or continuity - some urbanizations, neighborhoods and districts are affected by the lack or deficiencies of infrastructure that allow the proper drainage of streets and roads.

This is what happens -to mention some examples- in the streets of Espinardo, Churra, El Palmar, Sangonera La Vede, La Alberca, Beniaján and a long etcetera.

Likewise, the spokesman of the orange party has warned that the accumulation of rain joins the accumulation of silty-clayey or sandy materials that collapse scupper networks, sanitation and the roads themselves, streets and avenues.

"In some cases, he explained," even these sediments can damage the drinking water supply networks, and may also damage the foundations of buildings, which reduces their quality and resistance in the medium term. "

Take advantage of rainwater

On the other hand, the Cs spokesman refers to the need to create infrastructures - due to the scarcity of water resources in the Region and the floods that occur - to use and collect rainwater, store it and treat it appropriately. its future use, mitigating flood risks and reducing water dependence.

"Would not it be better to invest the public money in generating infrastructure to avoid floods and recover water for other uses instead of spending on repairing damages?" Gómez questions, who hopes that "this initiative will move forward for the implementation of proposals that allow us to take advantage of rainwater and the creation of this Permanent Water Commission in charge of studying, analyzing the situation generated by the torrential rains, setting a diagnosis, proposing solutions and building infrastructure that reduces risks ".
