The consensus guarantees the equitable distribution of aid among the 76 Centers for the Elderly of the municipality (26/11/2018)

José Ballesta signs the agreement for the Promotion and Development of the Social Centers for the Elderly 2018-2019, which will benefit 32,000 users.

The City Council invests three million euros per year in the set of training activities, workshops, services, equipment and reforms that are carried out in these spaces of coexistence and participation.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today signed with the different presidents of the Senior Centers of the Municipality the agreement for the Promotion and Development of Social Centers for the Elderly 2018-2019, which will benefit 32,000 users of the network of 76 centers of the districts and neighborhoods of the municipality.

The event was attended by the Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, and members of the municipal Corporation.

During his speech, José Ballesta said that "this agreement we signed today is the result of consensus among all municipal groups of the City, through the Table of Seniors, and ensures the equitable distribution of aid to these centers, examples of coexistence, assistance and permanent activity in all neighborhoods and districts of the municipality ".

Last October, the Senior Citizens' Committee was formed, made up of all the political groups of the municipal Corporation, in which an agreement was reached to standardize the criteria for the distribution of municipal aid, starting in 2019, with a scale unique that will take into account the number of partners of the centers, the development of cultural activities, training, intergenerational, promotion of volunteering and gender equality.

Said single scale will determine the economic allocation to each center for the development of its activities, with a technical proposal that will be made from the Senior Section, governed by equity criteria.

The Department of Social Rights will process aid to the Centers for the Elderly Urban Casco, while those of districts will be processed from the Municipal Boards, with the support of the Department of Decentralization.

Almost three million euros annually invests the City of Murcia in the 76 elderly social centers, in the set of training activities, workshops, services, press, maintenance, provision of equipment, supplies and adaptation works and reforms.

To this is added the work that each and every one of the Boards of Directors develop, which make these spaces places for active and healthy aging, participation, culture and equal opportunities.

In his speech, the mayor said that "the population over 60 years in the municipality of Murcia represents almost 20% of the total, adding almost 86,955 people, and for the City, as for the whole of Murcia society, are an essential asset, for their knowledge and experience. "

Assignment of spaces for activities

The agreement, which is valid until December 31, 2019, also establishes the cession by the Consistory of the spaces necessary for the development of activities and programs in the Senior Centers.

The City Council undertakes to cede the use of the space necessary to carry out its activities and, in addition, assumes the costs of water, electricity and other supplies for the proper functioning of the Center.

Social Rights also cedes the use of furniture, equipment and materials with which the store is donated, as well as access to the Internet.
