Change Murcia will ask that the City Council commemorate with cultural events the Andalusian foundation of Murcia (25/11/2018)

Nacho Tornel, councilman of Cambiemos Murcia, has asked that now finally, and thanks to the effort of citizens committed to maintaining their heritage, the deposit of the old suburb of Arrixaca and the palatial complex of Monteagudo, the City Council "should make sure to highlight the Andalusian roots of Murcia giving due importance to the commemoration of the founding of the city on June 25, 825."

As the mayor explained, it is this day, and not May 14, 1266, "in which the city of Murcia is considered founded."

For municipal training, although the granting of the Council by Alfonso X is important, since it implies the establishment of an institution that in the future would become Murcia City Council and the beginning of a recognized period of splendor, this should not serve to hide behind the Castilian city an Andalusian past that permeates from the layout of the streets to the way in which Huerta is made up.

For that reason, Let's Change Murcia will ask that it be signaled on June 25 every year with a program of institutional, cultural and social events that give value to the Andalusian roots of the city.

As explained, Abd al-Rahman II founded Murcia to strengthen the central power Cordovan on the territory surrounding the city.

For centuries, before the arrival of the Wise King, Madinat Mursiya was already a crossroads of civilizations and cradle of artists and scholars, as well as the political and economic center of the Southeast of the Peninsula, "no matter how much traditional historiography has repaired at this stage less than that I deserved. "

The 2 of February of 1266 Jaime I, and with him Corona de Aragón, entered Murcia to end with a hard repression to the insurrection of the settlers of the municipality, especially of the Kitchen garden, caused by an increase of taxes.

Three months later, on May 14, it was the Castilian monarch Alfonso X who granted the city the Council, putting an end to more than twenty years of protectorate and formally integrating it into the Kingdom of Castile.

"Event that is currently celebrated", explained Tornel.
