Cambiemos Murcia proposes to support the traditional All Saints market with cultural and artistic activities (24/11/2018)

The spokesman of the municipal group of Cambiemos Murcia, Nacho Tornel, will propose in the Plenary next Thursday that the City will expand the scope of celebration of the All Saints market so that, together with the commercial activity, a program of cultural activities will be developed. attract attention on the sale of traditional products and socio-cultural and artistic aspects.

The origins of the market, which since the 1960s is held in the Plaza de San Pedro to commemorate All Saints' Day, on November 1, go back to the 19th century with the sale of figurines, norales and blacks, cakes from musto, melons or "olicas de calabazate" in the Posada del Malecón, according to several articles of the press of the time.

Tornel has highlighted the importance of this market in the history of Murcia and has insisted on the need to put it in value, improving the aesthetics of the stands and extending cultural activity with the participation of spaces near the square, such as the Ramón Gaya museums and that of the City;

the Almudí Palace and the walls of Verónicas, accompanied by activities on traditional music, exhibitions, talks on Murcian literature and guided tours.

The initiative of Cambiemos Murcia also proposes the renewal of the agreement signed in 2017 by the City Council and the Association of Artisans and Merchants of the traditional market, in order to ensure its continuity and strengthen the municipal commitment to this event that is already part of the culture murciana, as well as include it in the tourist offer of the municipality.
