Hundreds of neighbors cut the road to El Palmar to demand that the Ministry of Public Works reinstitute Line 61 (23/11/2018)

Hundreds of residents of the districts of San José de la Montaña, El Palmar, San Ginés and Aljucer have demonstrated this afternoon on the road to El Palmar to demand the Ministry of Development to fulfill the commitment acquired on November 9 to implement a bus service with the routes and schedules decided mostly by the neighborhood assembly convened in October by the Neighborhood Platform for the Recovery of Line 61.

According to Carmen Campos, member-spokesperson of the Platform, "the commitment of the Ministry is an advance fruit of months of mobilizations, but we still have nothing, which is why it is necessary for neighbors and neighbors to remember with actions like this one that do not we're going to settle for promises. "

From the Platform ask that the Ministry of Development and Latbus, "who reportedly are negotiating the economic cost of the new contract," take the final step to recover a service that stopped working six years ago.

As explained during the development of the event, this Friday morning, Latbus management has met with the neighbors to commit to adjust their economic claims to the numbers handled by the Ministry of Development and the City Council.

Therefore, throughout the afternoon, several of the protesters exclaimed that "the ball is again on the roof of politicians."

After the demonstration, attendees were able to enjoy a chocolate with sweets for a snack commemorating that, after 6 years without service, the neighbors have not abandoned this claim and, especially, in this year 2018, in which they have maintained protest actions from March.

Likewise, Carmen Campos explains that, "until we see the circular bus, we will make all the necessary mobilizations".

Both the old line 61, and the current line 18, which passes through these districts, are regionally owned, so it must be the Autonomous Community that modifies the contract with the concessionary public transport company, Latbus.

At the proposal of the four opposition groups and unanimously, Murcia City Council promised to finance with 200,000 euros of the 2018 budget for the restoration of the service, "which is estimated to be half of the annual deficit of this line."
