The UMU presents a book that analyzes the history of the Spanish army of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century (23/11/2018)

The Chair of History and Naval Heritage of the University of Murcia presented this Friday at a press conference the book Winds of War.

Apogee and crisis of the Royal Navy 1750-1823, which analyzes the history of the Spanish navy of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.

The presentation was made by Juan Marchena Fernández, professor and general coordinator of the work;

Juan José Sánchez Baena, co-author and director of the Naval History and Heritage Chair;

and Ignacio Martín Lerma, vice-dean of Culture and Communication of the University of Murcia.

The work, divided into three volumes has been carried out by twelve Spanish specialists and other nationalities, and coordinated by Juan Marchena and Justo Cuño, from the Pablo de Olavide University.

In its pages, the main characteristics of the Royal Navy of the Spanish monarchy in the second half of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th century are analyzed and studied.

The purpose of the authors has been to analyze and explain the causes and circumstances for which the extraordinary apogee and the violent crisis of the largest and most complex and complete armada of the Spanish monarchy took place.

To all this, the interest to know what were the repercussions in the science, the technique and in the general advance of the knowledge, of this gigantic machinery, both in Andalusia and in the rest of the peninsula and in America.
