The University of Murcia raises its voice against violence towards women with the reading of a manifesto on the occasion of 25N (21/11/2018)

Representatives of students, administration and services staff and teaching and research staff of the University of Murcia have read on Wednesday the 'Manifesto 25N: for the elimination of violence against women' in the Gallery of Rectors of Convalescence.

Rector Luján has stated, as an introduction to the reading of the manifesto, that the University of Murcia has a firm commitment to the challenges of the world in which we live and that one of them is the fight against gender violence, "a social scourge against the one that has to be said is enough ".

Luján has called on the entire university community to continue working on this line from the institution "to raise awareness and enforce equality" as a basic principle.

The reading of the manifesto, which can be consulted entirely on the website of the University of Murcia, has ended with an appointment of the Deputy General Secretary and Executive Director of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka: "Gender violence is unacceptable, it can be avoided and it can be prevented."

Winners of the tweet contest

Before the reading of the manifesto, the prizes of the 'I Contest of Tuits against Gender Violence' convened by the Unit for Equality between Women and Men of the UMU have been delivered.

The jury has awarded the following awards:

First prize: Marcos Antón Renart, professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the UMU.

First runner-up: María del Mar Rubio Leiva, student of the master's degree in Mammalian Reproduction Biology and Technology at the UMU.

Second runner-up: Ernesto Zanón Cortés, administrative of the UMU Contracting and Heritage Area.

The director of the Unit for Equality has indicated that this contest has been addressed to the entire university community to promote awareness from within the institution.

In addition, he stressed that "gender violence is not only women's thing, but it is everyone's business".
