Increase of 11.9% in the number of attentions provided by the Gender Violence Assistance Team (13/11/2018)

The municipal device has made 1,880 interventions (consultations, calls, etc.) in 2018, compared to 1,680 in the same period of 2017, while the number of cases attended has been similar (246 this year and 250 the previous year).

Violence situations increase without gender reporting, while those registered with it decrease.

64% of the latter, ended with a conviction.

83 women currently have a restraining order and 18 have a telecare service.

The Municipal Team of Attention to Violence against Women (EMAVI) of the City of Murcia has attended 246 cases in the months of 2018 (158 Spanish and 88 foreign), 4 less than in the same period of the previous year, of which 143 are new and 103 old.

In addition, the service has attended a total of 1,880 interventions (consultations, telephone calls, etc.), compared to 1,680 from January to October 2017, which represents an increase of 11.9%.

These data are part of the report presented today at the meeting of the Municipal Council on Gender Violence, chaired by Conchita Ruiz, Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation.

The comparison of the first 10 months of 2017 and 2018 also indicates that 147 women filed a complaint (59.76%).

Of these, 94 were resolved with conviction, 3 acquittal, 30 are in process and 20 have been filed.

Currently, 83 women have a restraining order and 18 have a telecare service.

The 99 women served by the EMAVI this year, not listed without a complaint, are cases in which the municipal team is working with the objective, in addition to supporting them and helping their recovery, so that they can sustain the complaint and provide the evidence for that are not dismissed in court.

Therefore, the process implies a work prior to the complaint that is fundamental.

Couples and ex-partners, the main aggressors

As for the aggressors, in 57% of the cases it is the ex-partner, in 35% the couple, and in the majority of the situations it does not live with them (196).

Regarding the ages of the women that required the participation of the team, the majority were in the age groups between 30 and 40 years (34.96%) and between 40 and 50 years (26.83%).

In addition, in 2017, 17 women under the age of 20 were treated (3 with less than 18), compared with 12 minors (6 with less than 18 years old) this year.

The City of Murcia has three resources of reception of municipal ownership, subsidized by the General Directorate of Women of the Autonomous Community, whose purpose is to provide housing, protection and specialized treatment for women and their children who need to leave their homes habitual because of gender violence.

This year, 8 women and 8 children have been housed in these houses and there are currently 5 mothers with 5 children.
