The Spanish kárate has consolidated as a power in the World Championship played in Madrid.
The Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), which has had several participants within the Spanish team, has put the seal on five of the medals achieved.
The most brilliant of all, the gold of Sandra Sanchez in the category of individual female kata that with this title adds to her palmares the only medal of first international level that she lacked although now she already has the objective of the Olympic medal since in Tokyo 2020 the karate premieres as an Olympic sport.
Damián Quintero came as one of the favorites to the individual male kata box and was planted in the final with a brilliant previous phase.
He could not take the gold but his silver perfectly reflects the great work he has been doing and his role as one of the best karatekas in the world.
In team kata, Spain added two other silver medals in which the UCAM athletes participate: Pepe Carbonell, Sergio Galán and Lidia Rodríguez.
In the kumite modality, among the podiums conquered by Spain, the bronze stands out for teams of female kumite in which Cristina Vizcaíno and Cristina Ferrer participated.
In this way, there are five medals of the Spanish team in the World Championship of karate with UCAM seal.
A hopeful result thinking about the Olympic premiere of this sport in 2020.
