The new Asteamur Early Care Center opens its doors to serve 51 children with autism in Murcia (08/11/2018)

The new facilities of 160 m2, located next to Centrofama, consist of five therapeutic intervention cabinets and a multisensory stimulation and psychomotricity classroom.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the Minister of Family and Equality of Opportunities, Violante Tomás, and the president of the Association of People with Autism Spectrum Disorder of the Region of Murcia (Asteamur), Nani Martínez, inaugurated the new center today of early attention for people with autism of Asteamur in the city of Murcia;

an act that was attended by the Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, and the mayor of Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, Rafael Gómez.

The new Asteamur Early Care Center serves 51 families of the municipality and opens its doors thanks to the transfer of a central location by the City of Murcia, with the co-financing of GastroTEA (Solidarity Day of High Cooking), GMP Foundation, Grupo Orenes and Fundación ONCE.

The new facilities of 160 m2, located next to Centrofama, consist of five therapeutic intervention cabinets and a multisensory stimulation and psychomotricity classroom, financed by Carrefour Solidarity Foundation.

The center is approved by the IMAS.

"Asteamur is one of those essential institutions in our society, since it covers a social demand in our municipality by providing specialized, professional and, above all, human support to families with children suffering from autism spectrum disorder," said José Ballesta, who stressed that "this association is driven by mothers and fathers who have decided to take a step forward with determination, to overcome barriers and obstacles and to dream higher".

School of parents

It is the first center of early attention specialized in autism spectrum disorder of the city of Murcia.

In addition to the 51 children who use the new center, who participate in the different therapies, their families also benefit, participating in leisure and free time activities, as well as in the parents' schools.

The team of professionals of the new center is composed of six therapists (psychologists, speech therapists, etc.) a social worker and an administrative, plus the team of leisure, free time and volunteering, consisting of ten people, who organize field trips, camps and schools of fathers.

With this, there are two Asteamur offices in Murcia: in the Avenida de las Pinos and the new premises in Calle Greco in Murcia, which has reduced the waiting list of families, although this continues to grow.

The therapies and activities will begin this next Monday, November 12, from 9 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm, Monday through Friday, with leisure activities and free time on Saturdays.

A total of 182 families throughout the Region

The Association for People with Autism Spectrum Disorder of Murcia was born in 2011 with the aim of helping people with autism spectrum disorder and their families.

It currently serves 182 families throughout the Region and its work focuses on integrating, stimulating and socializing people affected by the disorder.

It has offices in Murcia, Cartagena, Águilas and Puerto Lumbreras, its area of ​​activity being the Region.

It offers school, home, individual and group intervention services, as well as various workshops, leisure services, parent schools, family and school care and summer camp.
