- Several affected people have complained about the situation to the member of Ahora Murcia in Santa María de Gracia

- These parking spaces have great problems when leaving on both sides of the vehicle

NOW MURCIA demands a solution for the new parking spaces for people with disabilities on Mar Menor Street, "which present great accessibility difficulties".

The vocal of the municipal formation in Santa Maria de Gracia, Paco García Elbal, explains that he has received complaints from this group, "who are in serious trouble when they use one of the new parking spaces created for the bike lane of Mar Menor street ".

Garcia Elbal notes that "these are parking spaces that are very necessary for people with disabilities because they are outside the Mar Menor municipal swimming pool, which is attended by many people with different degrees of physical dependence."

The vocal of Now Murcia explains that these places of parking have great problems when leaving by both sides of the vehicle: "By the side of the driver, the access is to the road, by which the cars are passing, and by the side of the co-driver As soon as you get off the vehicle, there is a median, with a height of almost 20 cm, that leads to the bike lane, and after passing through it, people find themselves with the sidewalk, that is, those who park in these squares for people with difficulties of mobility are found with two very high curbs, which are not reduced or made accessible. "

"The thing gets even more complicated," he adds, "because if you want to walk through the median to the pedestrian crossing with the curbs reduced, the pedestrian comes across a traffic sign that prevents their passage. the people who park in these new places, are in a compromised and dangerous situation with regard to their physical integrity, and can dissuade them from going to the sports facilities that are so necessary for them ".

The spokeswoman of the municipal formation, Alicia Morales, indicates that Now Murcia has transmitted today in writing this situation to the councilor of Traffic, Lola Sanchez, and of Urbanism, Antonio Navarro Corchón, demanding a solution.

Morales emphasizes the importance of the municipal government taking into account, in all its works and actions, the needs of

accessibility, "to build a municipality without barriers for any group, and pay special attention to people with disabilities."

The councilor also recalls the continuous delays that the Ballesta government has had to prepare the Municipal Accessibility Plan, which has been delayed for years.
