More than 1,500 palm trees, poplars and fruit trees will be the lung of'Murcia Río' (06/11/2018)

The project is the second largest tree plantation in the municipality, after 1,800 copies of the Greenway.

The works of the Alameda del Malecón and the riverwalk of 'Murcia River' are progressing at a good pace, which will open an area of ​​45,000 m2 of pedestrian paths and natural and sports areas.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, visited today the works of the Alameda del Malecón and the new river promenade, two actions that form the 'Murcia River' transformation project , which will give life about 1,500 trees in an area of ​​45,000 m2.

Specifically, the Alameda del Malecón will be planted 500 new copies next December, among which are palms, and have been planted 23-, white, citrus and fruit trees.

These will be added to the 293 large trees that will incorporate the City Council to the new riverwalk, whose works are running parallel to the garden of the Alameda.

"The heart of the city will have a large green lung that will connect the Paseo del Malecón with the mote of the river and the city with the Huerta, recovering a disused space next to the highway that will open to Murcia as a natural area and family leisure provided with terraces with crops, a large walk of white poplars, orchards with lemon and fruit, bike lane, children's play areas and living areas, "said the mayor, who stressed that" a circular circuit will be created between the Malecón and the Segura of tens of kilometers of green spaces, which will become one of the most attractive outdoor sports spots in the municipality ".

In total, the itinerary of 'Murcia River' will have about 1,500 trees, since the 800 of the Alameda and the river walk must add the 544 trees of the Malecón and 64 new specimens that have been planted in the garden of the Four Stones, recently inaugurated.

'Murcia River' will become the second environment with a greater plantation of large trees of the municipality, after the Greenway that connects the districts of the South, which in the coming weeks will be planted a total of 1,800 new trees along its 8.5 km of layout.

Recovery of the irrigation ditch of La Arboleja

The works of the Garden of the Alameda, which are advancing at a good pace and are expected to finish at the beginning of 2019, involve the recovery of the La Arboleja irrigation ditch, which will irrigate the various terraces with vegetation on the plot and the avenue, as the revegetation of the embankment of the highway.

80% of the earthworks, the traditional irrigation system and the infrastructures (channeling of the ditch, pipes and lighting) of the new garden have already been executed.

During the month of November will continue the plantations of shrubs and the set of infrastructures will be finalized.

In December the planting of trees and the installation of furniture and children's games will begin.

The new environment will have night lighting.

Advances in the river walk 'Murcia Río'

With respect to the works of the new river walk 'Murcia River' has already completed 50% of the structure for the new platform or platform flush with the water level on the left bank, at the height of the Manterola footbridge, which will allow the walk along the river, recovering the naturalization and accessibility to the Segura shore.

This itinerary, which establishes a new connection of the city with the Huerta, will connect the existing area between the Manterola footbridge and the Alameda del Malecón, on the other side of the highway, through the creation of a promenade that will allow you to 'see the Segura' and It will stand slightly above the river and offer a direct view of its course, as an alternative route to the Malecón.

Construction has also begun on a new landscaped area next to Calle Mayor Gaspar de la Peña, demolishing the existing sidewalk that will be incorporated into the garden.
