The University of Murcia and Terra Prosper finalize the creation of the Gender and Labor Chair (05/11/2018)

The University of Murcia and the company Terra Prospero are finalizing the details for the creation and start-up of the Gender and Work Chair and this Monday there has been a meeting to define the terms of this chair, which will have as its objective research, training and knowledge transfer around issues of equality in the workplace.

The meeting was held in the convalescent building and was chaired by the rector, José Luján.

Isabel Soler, vice-dean of the Faculty of Labor Sciences and future director of the chair, explained that the objective of the chair will be to "research and create action protocols so that there are no wage differences or any other differences based on gender, as it can be not to access certain positions in companies, it is about getting women to be considered as professionals in equality, working on it and encouraging female participation that until now is being denied in certain sectors ".

The Gender and Work Chair will have an action plan for the coming years.

Both the company and the University hope that the firm can be completed before the end of the year to begin with the activities as soon as possible.

The vice-chancellor of Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society, Alicia Rubio, has highlighted the opportunity that thanks to this Chair will have many researchers to delve into issues of equality and will also give students the opportunity to train in this field of knowledge.

Miguel Moreno, Executive Director and International Relations of Terra Prospero, said that for the company "is very important to collaborate with the public university in Murcia, we put this first stone to enhance this relationship through the chair because it is closely related to our activity and with it we want to improve the social environment and return the grain of sand that we are collecting from the society of Murcia ".

Moreno has pointed out the salary gap as one of the aspects in which this chair will work.

For his part, the rector said "the joy that for the UMU represents the fact that new companies are incorporated into the creation of university chairs, an initiative that we want to strengthen and that is one of the instruments that companies and institutions have to co-responsibility with the generation and transmission of knowledge, the function of the universities, in this sense we continue adding initiatives ".

Luján pointed out that the work of the University of Murcia in the field of equality at work goes back more than a decade in different areas, starting with the curriculum of the Faculty of Labor Sciences, but also in other faculties, with research groups dedicated to equality.

The rector also highlighted the fact that the University of Murcia has a Unit for Equality between Women and Men.

"Equality is a front-line challenge of the advanced society in which we live and an institution like the University of Murcia, which aims to be the leader in the generation of knowledge and transformation, must be working on it for a long time, now we add one more instrument, "said Luján.
