The Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz and the Councilor for Trade and Institutional Relations, Maruja Pelegrín together with the President of the Region, Fernando López Miras, today attended the election of the 'Grandparents of the Year' 2018 of the Social and Senior Centers of the municipality of Murcia.
Concepción Lax, of the Senior Social Center of Espinardo, with 103 years old and Antonio Galán of the Senior Social Center of San Antón, with 96 years, have been elected today Grandmother and Grandfather of the municipal elderly centers in the traditional lunch of coexistence, in which more than 400 people have participated.
After the awards ceremony, a lively and festive meal was held at the Mesón la Torre restaurant, which was attended by 410 adults from the different centers of the municipality.
In total 31 candidates have been presented, representing 20 centers for the elderly.
The City Council, together with the federation of social centers for the elderly, organizes this annual meeting in order to highlight the important work carried out by these centers and, at the same time, recognize and highlight the figure of grandparents.
