The PSOE proposes greater discounts to favor the access of young people to plays and concerts (14/09/2018)

The Municipal Socialist Group considers that the City of Murcia as an administration has the obligation to promote and favor the access of young people to cultural shows, for example, those that take place in theaters, and "the best way to do this is to apply discounts substantial that does not suppose an economic sacrifice or that finally forces to the youth to remain with the desire to attend a concert or a representation ", according to the councilor Maite Espinosa.

In this sense, he affirms that "throughout the year many shows are programmed with a ticket price of 30 or 40 euros, so with a discount of 15%, which is what is being applied, you save four euros, an almost laughable that does not encourage too much, "especially" if we take into account that young people, between 16 and 25 years old, either they are studying or have a job with a precarious salary that makes it difficult to make these expenses ".

However, Espinosa notes that "culture is a right, as set out in Article 44 of our Constitution, so that the City as responsible administration must use all necessary resources to facilitate that right is not hindered, in this case , because in many occasions have prohibitive prices ".

In addition, the councilor declares that "if we favor access to the culture of young people we will achieve an audience that demands shows, but if we separate them for such banal issues as economic ones we will not only be preventing the taste for culture from being lost but also It will reduce the number of spectators, it is our obligation to bring culture and youth and open the doors of theaters and halls. "

For Espinosa greater access will help to expand the leisure offer that young people now have, even it would be necessary to raise the gratuity of some shows.

He adds that in other cities more significant discounts are applied at this time.

"If a City Council like ours has a budget to spend more than one million euros on advertising and propaganda, it should not be too complicated to register an economic item to promote entry to cultural shows," concludes Maite Espinosa.
