Change Murcia asks for the suspension of permits for the construction of the Vereda de Solís gas station (20/08/2018)

The councilman of Change Murcia Sergio Ramos has requested today to the City council that suspends the authorization of construction of a station of service in the Vereda de Solís, in Llano de Brujas, when being located in a space that counts on the greater protection of the General Plan of Ordenación Urbana (PGOU) and less than 10 meters from the riverbed. Ramos explained that the area is currently developing works to flatten the surface and put layers of soil to begin with the construction of the gas station, which also includes a laundry and a store.

Last month, Cambiemos Murcia presented before the Department of Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, which runs the popular Antonio Javier Navarro Corchón, a letter in which he asked the City Council to reconsider his idea of allowing the construction of the station in the place chosen for several technical and environmental reasons. Among them, Ramos noted that the soil is listed in the PGOU as "non-developable NR" to be part of the continuous strip of orchards of high environmental and scenic interest attached to the traditional course of the river.

In addition, he recalled that within a radius of less than three kilometers there are four service stations, one of them at about 700 meters, so "your need is not understood".

The construction "will have an environmental and landscape impact in the area due to noise, night lighting, the risk of pollutant spills and odors produced by the products that are used," he said, after insisting that, despite the various Once your group has requested it, you have not been provided with the mandatory Environmental Impact Study.

"Neither have we seen that for the authorization as building public interest -required for these cases, according to the PGOU- has taken into account the risk that may entail as it is a flood zone and through which passes a bike lane", the mayor has added.

Damage to the Huerta of Murcia

Three years ago, Murcia Change warned of the existence of the project to the Consistory, which decided to paralyze it considering that it could be an infraction of the legal system and public interest, but the owner of the land challenged this decision and brought it before the courts, which concluded that a useful report by the Autonomous Community was necessary to set it in motion.

The Autonomous Community prepared the report and allowed the construction of the gas station, and the City Council granted the license last March.

The Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), meanwhile, has not prepared the report with the security requirements required by the new Royal Decree, despite the proximity of the cauice and that next to the site there is a water supply for irrigation that supplies the area.

"We do not understand how both the CARM and the City Council have given their approval to a project that, besides being unnecessary, can significantly damage the landscape and the ecosystem of our already degraded Huerta," said Councilor Ramos.
