The UCAM and the COE propose to implant in Alcorcón 'The University of Sports' (10/07/2018)

The University Foundation San Antonio (UCAM) has formally requested this morning, before the City Council of Alcorcón, the implementation of 'The University of Sport', linked to the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), in the Center for the Creation of the Arts of this municipality (CREAA)

The proposal is to create a campus specialized in sports, health and nutrition, which promotes excellence, talent and values.

The City Council has announced the opening of an open competition process that guarantees free competition.

The UCAM and the COE maintain a close collaboration for years, which has resulted in the fact that many of the Olympic athletes of our country are combining high competition with their academic training, as well as the granting of economic scholarships and for studies or fostering teaching and research in fields related to sport.

The UCAM leads successively the Spanish University Championships, in the past Olympic Games in Rio competed 55 athletes linked to this university, the European Union has promoted a research project in 'Dual Career' so that the model of the UCAM is replicated by universities from other countries, it carries out research of reference and has the collaboration of medical and sports institutions of national and international prestige.

For all these reasons, the UCAM is recognized as 'The University of Sports'.

Given the demand for specialization in these areas, the UCAM and the COE, both institutions of public service and non-profit, have gone a step further, proposing the creation of the University of Sports in Madrid.

The request was registered this morning in the Town Hall of Alcorcón and initial steps have been taken before the City Council and the Community of Madrid.

UCAM Madrid intends to implement, among others, specialties in Physical Therapeutic Activity, Sports Physical Reeducation, High Sports Performance (Strength and Physical Conditioning), Management and Management of Sports Entities, Sports Nursing, Athletic Trainer (NSCA), Sports Physiotherapy , Sports Osteopathic Manual Therapy, Neurorehabilitation, Sports Medicine, Sports Traumatology, Medical and Motor Sciences, Cardiovascular Risk, Biomedical Engineering and Health Technologies, Sports Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition and Health, Functional and Sports Gastronomy, Nutrition and Food Safety, Dentistry Sports, Sports Psychology, Neuropsychology and Neurodevelopment, Sports Podiatry or Sports Journalism.

The UCAM recovered and rehabilitated the Monastery of Los Jerónimos for its Murcia campus and the former Los Dolores artillery barracks for Cartagena.

The adaptation of the CREAA would mean a strong investment by the UCAM, putting these facilities in value to convert them into a center of higher education of reference at national and international level, boosting the economy and employment in the area.

The UCAM stands out for its ability to generate wealth in the environment, the international profile of the student body (2,000 of the more than 20,000 students that it currently has are foreigners), the strong commitment to social work and non-profit organizations. profit that operate in this area, or in the sponsorship and promotion of sports and culture.
