The professors of the University of Murcia can record their classes for students to use as video jacks (20/06/2018)

The University of Murcia presented on Wednesday the project Videoapuntes, an initiative by which teachers who request it can record their classes and so that students have the possibility to access them through the virtual classroom of the subject whenever they need it .

This possibility, which is part of a teaching excellence plan with funds from the Campus Mare Nostrum, has already been available during this course and ten teachers have put it into practice.

The system has already been tested in faculties such as Medicine, Mathematics, Computer Science and Optics, among others.

The operation of 'Videoapuntes' is very simple from the technical point of view.

A camera and a room microphone record the teacher's explanations, while at the same time the images that the teacher passes to the class through his computer are recorded (slides, photographs, diagrams ...) Once recorded, the teacher has several days to review the content and, if you want, you can cut what you do not want to remain, such as downtime.

Once the material is the final, it is uploaded to the resources of the virtual classroom of the subject and students can consult it whenever they want.

Miguel Ángel García Lax, Head of IT Infrastructures at the University of Murcia, explains that "students, above all, use it when the end of the course arrives to consult questions they have doubts in. It is also a good way for students who do not they have been able to follow the development of the subject to reengage. "

During this initiation course, forty recording equipment has been installed in different classrooms spread throughout the University.

The objective of the institution is to continue expanding the prepared classes little by little and to ensure that no teacher who wants to use this tool has to renounce it due to the lack of available space in his class schedule.

The cameras are installed, approximately, in 10% of the classrooms of the University of Murcia.

Disclosure among teachers

The University of Murcia will carry out a dissemination campaign among the professors to inform them of the project and ensure that the next course is used by more teachers.

This Wednesday the system has been presented at the Faculty of Economics and Business with a demonstration of its operation.
