The works, which have lasted four months, have been carried out to improve circulation in the surroundings while Adif executes the burying of the roads.

The reordering envisaged 10 differentiated actions, among them, the installation of new regulation elements and a closed circuit television to manage any incident or problem of traffic immediately.

This week the traffic management works contracted by the City Council to improve the flow of traffic while carrying out the burying of the railway tracks have been completed.

The completion of the work has met the deadlines, coinciding with the closure of the level crossing of the Sendero de los Garres, announced yesterday by Adif.

The measures that have been adopted by the Department of Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection, directed by Lola Sanchez, centralize the entire area to better manage traffic from the control room and incorporate new movements that improve the circulation of the environment affected by the works.

This is the case of the departure from Miguel Ángel Blanco to Ronda sur and the direct entrance to Moreras street, which allow to facilitate the mobility of the southern neighborhoods of the tracks.

In total, 10 differentiated actions have been executed, with a cost higher than 169,000 euros, which include the installation of new regulation and centralization elements in the Traffic Control Room and modifications of routes in different roads.

These interventions are specified in 6 measures:

- Centralization of the road axis from the Plaza Ingeniero Juan de la Cierva to Ronda Sur

- Installation of closed circuit television for the correct management of traffic directly

- Centralization of the intersection between Pío XII and Huerto streets, which allows regulation on demand

- Enable traffic signal turn right from Ronda Sur to Calle Morera

- Improvement of the exit of the neighborhoods of Santiago El Mayor and San Pío towards Ronda Sur, enabling a turn signalized at the intersection of Ronda Sur with Miguel Ángel Blanco

- Speed ​​up the departure of Pintor Almela Costa to Ronda Sur, turning the roundabout into phases

In summary, they are works for installation and modification of equipment on public roads and in the Control Room, which range from the installation of the conduits and the corresponding electrical wiring, through the installation and modification of staffs, columns, traffic lights and cameras, besides the installation and modification of regulators and other street equipment.

Likewise, these actions involve software and hardware work to synchronize and centralize the traffic light crossings, which include necessary actions in the traffic controllers, in the zone centrals and in the Traffic Control Room itself.

The project was prepared by the Traffic Service of the City Council, based on the information provided by ADIF on the development of the works for the burial of the train tracks.

Information to the municipal boards

The conclusion of the traffic works have coincided, as expected, with the closure of the level crossing of the Senda de los Garres by Adif, to continue with the necessary actions to carry out the burial.

After announcing yesterday Adif of the closure of the pass at the level of Senda de los Garres, the members of the municipal councils of the environment were summoned to transfer the information on the matter, as well as the circulation alternatives.

In this sense, the councilors of Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection, Finance, Contracting and Urban Mobility and Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Lola Sánchez, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva and Rebeca Pérez, respectively, together with the General Director of Transport , Coasts and Ports, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, met yesterday with the presidents of the municipal boards affected by the works to explain the traffic alternatives provided by Adif to guarantee accessibility while progressing in the construction of the underground.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the municipal councils of Santiago El Mayor, Barrio del Progreso, Patiño, Los Garres, Los Dolores, Infante Juan Manuel, El Carmen and San Pío X.
