The City Council promotes 45 actions to improve the Barrio de La Paz and generate an urban environment with a better quality of life for its 5,000 inhabitants (18/05/2018)

The Governing Board has given its approval to the project of comprehensive social intervention in the Polygon, with actions aimed at the family, childhood and adolescence, gender equality, community area and immigrant population.

Among the greatest strengths and opportunities identified are the central location of the neighborhood, the significant presence of young people, the extensive experience of municipal social services and the existence of the most important weekly market in the city as a driving force for the economic development of the environment.

The Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, led by Conchita Ruiz, will launch a social intervention program in the neighborhood of La Paz with the aim of transforming it into an integrated urban space in the city, with quality of life for its inhabitants and in suitable habitat conditions.

To achieve this, a plan has been designed with 45 measures that will be developed in the family, with children and adolescents, gender equality, community area and immigrant population.

The project has been approved today by the Government Board and is part of the overall process of recovery of the estate, whose approach, in addition to urban planning, has an important social content to achieve a true revitalization and regeneration of this environment.

Likewise, it will be complemented with actions of housing, economy and employment, and citizen security.

Before developing the proposed measures, the Department of Social Rights has made a map of social reality that has identified the main current weaknesses, including the existence of a park of old housing, increased factors linked to the risk of poverty and social exclusion, lack of adequate social spaces, ample presence of the marginal economy, a weak associative fabric and high school absenteeism and early abandonment without qualifications.

Faced with these weaknesses, its greatest strengths lie in the central location of the neighborhood, the significant presence of young people, the extensive experience of municipal social services in the area, the guarantee of access to basic services and social services resources.

In addition, a model of networking is being initiated, exclusively aimed at intervention with children.

The social map has also identified the great opportunities of the neighborhood, among them, the municipal political decision to develop a new city model and to promote an integral action in the neighborhood, the new possibilities of financing projects and the existence of the weekly market more important city as a driver of economic development of the environment.

Workshops on parental education and family mediation

Regarding the five areas of intervention foreseen in the comprehensive project approved today, the actions referred to the family scope include the identification of families at risk of poverty and social exclusion, intervention with families of minors in a situation of mild and moderate deprivation until the resolution of their situation, workshops of parental education with young mothers or fathers, intermediation for the labor insertion or family mediation in front of problems of coexistence by intergenerational conflicts or by crisis situations within the family units.

Regarding Roma families, it is proposed to increase awareness of the consequences that an early school dropout has on their children, in terms of personal development and future social and economic inclusion, work with them to stay in the educational system of girls , the most affected by the high rates of early school leaving.

Regarding the actions with the area of ​​childhood and adolescence, the plan foresees measures such as the diversification of educational reinforcement, promotion of early schooling of children from families with a history of school absenteeism, management and processing of resources and support aids to the families of minors in a situation of social vulnerability, development of leisure activities and free time during after-school hours and during vacation periods, implementation of a project of work with adolescents aimed at young people who abandoned their studies and establishment of a process of accompaniment for young people in its educational-labor insertion once compulsory schooling has ended.

Training activities for immigrant women

The intervention project in La Paz also includes a selection of measures to promote equality.

These include the development of Spanish classes and other training activities for immigrant women, collaboration with the women's center, promotion of employment programs and campaigns and projects that favor equal opportunities and the prevention of behaviors against violence. of genre.

Likewise, the actions in the community sphere are based on the creation of a dynamic team that promotes all the community action composed of the agents that intervene and reside in the territory, open to all the actors involved in the process, self-managed, flexible and open .

In addition, intercultural mediation will be promoted with the immigrant population, training and social intervention projects with the Roma community and organization of community activities that intensify coordination and promote the participation of all entities and associations.

Regarding the immigrant population of the neighborhood, the project takes into account the need to inform of their rights and duties, as well as to guide families on existing agencies and resources that offer the necessary legal and legal support.

Likewise, the actions will affect the educational environment of children and improve the educational guidelines of children and the educational-educational level of parents and mothers, access to new technologies and training in the search for employment.
