The PSOE accuses the PP of "breaching" the Plenary agreement and lengthening the deadlines for the implementation of the Municipal Accessibility Plan (10/05/2018)

Socialist councilor Begoña García Retegui recalls that the local government first affirmed that it would approve in 2017 and then in March of this year the agreement for public buildings to eliminate architectural barriers and that all buses operating in the municipality be equipped for people with disability

The Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Murcia has accused the Popular Party of "breaching" the agreement of the Plenary last November for the implementation of the Municipal Accessibility Plan and the Universal Accessibility Ordinance, which are intended to make spaces and public buildings are free of architectural barriers, which involves the installation of ramps and the placement of railings, as well as the installation of acoustic warnings in pedestrian crossings and the adaptation of all public transport vehicles, among other issues.

With the support of all the political groups with representation in the Consistory except for Citizens, which abstained, the elaboration and subsequent implementation of the aforementioned plan was approved and a term of no more than three months was given for it.

However, that period of time has passed and there is no news.

It should be remembered that already in the Plenary of January 2016 the popular councilor Conchita Ruiz raised a motion to develop a Municipal Accessibility Plan in Murcia in compliance with the regulations that required public institutions to provide accessibility to services and facilities for public use that were amenable to reasonable adjustments.

In that Plenary, it was specified that the Plan would be in December 2017.

To this end, we counted on the opinion of 59 entities related to the world of disability with the intention of making Murcia a more friendly city with various types of activities.

The most striking and serious of the case is that those affected by disability continue to denounce the implementation of municipal services and the opening of offices and shops that break the law without the City Council prevents it.

"Today, two years and four months later, we are still without a plan and without an ordinance that makes life easier for people with disabilities living in the municipality of Murcia," recalled García Retegui, who added that this "leaves patent the lack of political impulse for its elaboration and its subsequent fulfillment ".

In addition, the Socialist councilor has remarked that "the mandate of Ballesta has not improved the nefarious management of the House government on accessibility when he had a legal obligation and the apparent political commitment to do so" and added that the City "should do elaborate an authentic plan that contains diagnosis, actions, cost and permanent evaluation ".

"The PP violates its own commitments and is dedicated to programming ads and photos more than doing the work that corresponds to it," García Retegui concluded.
